Stepping out of Snape's house, Lucius flexed his fingers. He wasn't used to going without his cane, and suddenly felt very strange without it.
He simply shoved his hands into his pockets and looked back at the tightly shut door.
Goodbye, my old friend.
I'm going far away to pursue my dreams.
Perhaps when we meet again, we'll be sworn enemies, standing on opposite sides.
But I'm so relieved to entrust my child to you, even if one day I might die by your wand.
Lucius smiled faintly. His face held a lightness and ease he hadn't felt in some time. He turned to his weeping wife and said gently, "Perhaps you should stay behind too. Draco needs a mother."
"No!" Narcissa cried, grabbing Lucius by the sleeve and staring fiercely at him. "You promised me. You swore we'd die together, and that we'd be buried in the same grave!"
Lucius pursed his lips. For some reason, he felt like laughing, so he did, laughing with abandon.
He gave his arm a little shake. "Then, my dear Mrs. Malfoy, let's go."
"Mm!" Narcissa clung tightly to his arm.
Bang~
With a loud crack, they vanished around the corner of the alley.
Snape stood by the window, watching the direction they had gone for a long time, his lips pressed together. A cloud of silver smoke rose, and his whole body faded into nothingness, dispersing into the air.
Draco sat dazed at one side of the round table. He didn't know when the meeting had ended.
People came and went. After the meeting, some stayed behind to exchange a few words with Anton. Whatever he said made everyone laugh.
A few others stood not far away, discussing something in loud voices.
Buzz, buzz, buzz.
His mind felt like a mess.
