The qualities a transmigrator ought to have: finishing blows and looting corpses.
Anton did neither.
Aside from stuffing the Old Wizard into the box in a moment of panic at the beginning, he had not touched him afterward. Even this time, he had dragged him out with a long hook.
He knew there had to be treasures in the Old Wizard's Wizard Robe pockets, but he absolutely would not touch them, not even once.
This, too, came from the Old Wizard's teachings by word and example.
Even when the target item was something he had wanted from the start, the Old Wizard remained cautious upon cautious while looting corpses. Sometimes, he even had his Apprentices do it for him.
Anton remembered that after the Old Wizard's Apprentices had died until only two remained, he had casually pointed between Anton and another chubby boy, choosing the chubby boy who looked more able to eat.
The poor kid had been fine after searching the corpse. He even cried that night, feeling that he had escaped death once more.
Yet on the third night, a head grew from his shoulder—a head that had originally belonged to the dead Old Witch.
There were countless bizarre and sinister spells passed down from the Ancient Wizard Era. By modern standards, nearly all of them could be classified as Dark Magic.
Such strange spells might have been nothing in the eyes of Academy Faction wizards like Snape and McGonagall, but beyond the academies, in dark places beyond the Ministry of Magic's jurisdiction, they constantly killed vast numbers of people.
This was what low-ranking Wandering Wizards called the Land of Chaos.
Everyone's studies grew increasingly crooked. The more crooked they became, the more they had to keep researching. Sometimes, people simply vanished while researching.
Seeing that things were going wrong, Anton flipped onto his Flying Broomstick and flew madly into the distance.
Racing through the sky, with no obstructions and no need to worry about hitting anything, he finally had the chance to relax enough to look back at what was happening.
That glance nearly scared his soul out of him.
In the distant glow of the Dark Green Formation, a figure floated out of the formation.
It was the Old Wizard!
Unlike before, the Old Wizard's body was pale as though its color had faded, and it was half-transparent.
His tattered Wizard Robe fluttered without wind, while the head in his arms stared fixedly at Anton!
Before long, the Old Wizard floated into the Little Building in the sky.
The Little Building underwent a miraculous transformation.
The walls, haphazardly pieced together from wooden boards and rusty iron sheets, split apart and flapped like the wings of a great bird.
After flapping a few times, it actually took flight.
"Wang Defa!" Anton was stunned. He hugged the Flying Broomstick and lowered his body, discovering that this reduced wind resistance and made the broom fly faster.
The Little Building was incredibly fast!
It was even faster than the Flying Broomstick!
Fortunately, the thing seemed unable to fly far. After traveling a certain distance, it had to descend to the ground before taking off again.
And so they sped onward, deep into the forest.
The Flying Broomstick's maximum speed was fixed. No matter how hard he urged it on, that was all the faster it could go. Its speed was not determined by the wizard's magical power.
Anton was especially grateful for his earlier foresight. Without this broomstick, he would probably have died tonight.
But they could not keep chasing each other like this forever.
The birdlike Little Building seemed tireless, while Anton was beginning to feel exhausted.
The Flying Broomstick only had an invisible Gaseous Cushion. He still had to grip the broom handle tightly with both hands to support himself.
On top of that, the fierce wind from their high-speed flight battered his face relentlessly.
Anton felt as though his entire body had gone numb.
An hour had passed!
They had flown for a full hour!
Yet it still pursued him relentlessly!
"Competing in patience, are you?" Anton's expression hardened. Patience was the one thing he lacked least.
The more it was like this, the less he could panic!
The only means he had of fighting back was to draw his wand and cast a spell. But whether it was the Soul Transfer Curse or the Displacement Soul Curse, whether they worked or not, casting a spell beyond his capabilities would leave him in an extremely weakened state.
He might fall from the Flying Broomstick because of it.
That was not a wise choice!
No matter how large Britain was, it was still only an island.
He did not need to fly forever. As long as he reached the sea, he had a hundred ways to wreck something like this that needed to land to keep going!
The facts proved that as long as one had enough patience, opportunities would always appear!
At a mining area of some unknown mineral, the Little Building descended and then took off again. Because of the terrain, a large section of its wooden flooring got caught and torn away.
The boards that had once formed the first floor's ground clattered down to the earth.
Anton's eyes lit up.
He had found an opportunity!
He turned the Flying Broomstick and began to curve around. The Little Building pursued closely, and this time, the distance between them shrank.
But this price had to be paid.
Anton lowered himself, and the Flying Broomstick dove toward that mining area.
Just as he was about to reach the ground, he abruptly pulled up the broomstick and soared skyward again.
The massive Little Building behind him was not nearly so nimble.
With a loud boom, a shriek of scraping metal rang out.
Half of its body smashed into the ground and shattered into fragments.
The Little Building still chased after him tirelessly.
"Ha ha." Anton shot into the sky, and the oppression in his chest suddenly dispersed. He let out a wild howl. "This feels insanely thrilling! So damn good!"
He lowered himself again and dove!
He led the Little Building in endless circles, exploiting the terrain bug.
At last, the crooked Little Building completely shattered against the edge of a mine shaft.
The magic array formed from dark green threads flickered once before completely collapsing.
"No!" The Old Wizard let out a shrill howl. "My armor! My armor!"
He floated up and lunged toward the ruins again, but as though they were matter from different dimensions, he passed straight through them.
Still unwilling to accept it, the Old Wizard continued darting back and forth above the ruins.
Anton hovered in midair on his Flying Broomstick, watching him coldly.
"A ghost!"
He finally knew what this thing was.
Hogwarts Castle had a whole bunch of these creatures.
If the things in his memory were not fanfiction additions, then ghosts existed in a state between life and death. After dying, wizards had the chance to choose between remaining in the mortal world or entering the world of departed souls.
Other than those with especially deep obsessions, people generally would not choose to remain here after death, becoming an awkward state rejected by both the underworld and the living world.
Ghosts were not even a form of life. They could only be considered traces left behind by their former lives, imitating the state of being alive.
Other than the icy sensation when touched, these things could no longer affect anything in the world.
Ambitious figures like Grindelwald and Voldemort would never consider making such creatures their subordinates.
Yet an astonishing scene now appeared before Anton.
Using the magic of the Dark green thread-like crack that he had developed himself, the Old Wizard had somehow created an armor that a ghost could control while he was still alive.
In certain fields, there would always be extraordinarily gifted people, such as some Obliviation Spell Master.
Though their overall strength might be lacking, they could always stand ahead of everyone else in certain fields.
"Impressive." Although he disliked and even hated the Old Wizard, Anton still voiced his admiration.
He suddenly realized that the materials stored in his Gringotts vault might truly be extremely valuable!
Now that the Old Wizard no longer posed any threat, it was time for him to pursue his new life.
Farewell, then.
With a gentle lift of his arm, the Flying Broomstick turned in the air and flew into the distance.
