Anton and Anna hadn't gone far.
In fact, they'd only moved upstairs. They Confunded the hotel manager, and checked in without a hitch.
This was where an obscure bit of magic came in handy, from the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts School Library: Greedy Gaze.
Anton had given the spell an elegant, meaningful name: Stealing Light Through a Wall.
As for what it did...
Anton waved his wand, and a two-meter-wide circle appeared on the hotel room floor. The floor inside it looked as if it had vanished.
To keep himself from feeling as if he might step into empty space at any moment, Anton used Transfiguration to add a railing around the "well."
Anna leaned against the railing with a plate of fruit, watching the Aurors standing motionless in the shadows below. Her expression turned strange. "Why are we staying here to watch them?"
Anton shrugged. "These Aurors aren't what's on my mind. I'm more concerned about the person who arranged for a sniper to kill me earlier."
"It might even be an organization, not just one person. Who knows?"
He rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful. "First they tried to kill me, then they tried to make me fight those Mercenaries, and then they arranged for someone to film it and send it to the newspaper, bringing in the Ministry of Magic Aurors."
"If I follow the rules of the local Ministry of Magic and get arrested, I'm sure they'll have something else waiting for me..."
"And if I resist arrest, they'll have something else ready for that, too. The information I've gotten seems to keep pointing to the Mysterious Force website, and eventually to a clash with the power behind it."
"It could be Grindelwald, or it could be Voldemort..."
He smacked his lips. "Clearly, there's a huge
