Not long after the military parade ended, the Spanish government announced reforms to its government departments, cutting several meaningless departments and merging those with similar administrative scopes.

After the government reforms, the number of Spain's Cabinet departments was streamlined as well. The Army and Naval Department were integrated into the Ministry of Defense, and Grand Duke Serrano was promoted to Minister of Defense.

This was very necessary. Spain's navy had never been particularly strong, nor was there any need to develop it in the short term—though in truth, there was simply no money to develop the navy—so there was no need for the Naval Department to continue existing independently.
