Ch. 414Giant Hunter (First Update)

Rufus Scrimgeour assembled a force of Aurors after Chris Everard revealed that the giants behind the West Coast Hurricane attack were hiding on the Isle of Man. Jon joined Kingsley as the Aurors exposed the giants’ lair and prepared to move in.

  • Chris Everard told Scrimgeour that the giants were on the Isle of Man and urged him to attack before Voldemort returned from Siberia.
  • Scrimgeour called more than thirty Aurors to assemble and sent them to search for the giants.
  • Jon revealed himself to Scrimgeour and asked to join the mission, and Kingsley agreed to take responsibility for him.
  • Gedwin disrupted the Spatial Concealment, revealing the giants’ lair to the Aurors.
  • Kingsley reassured Jon that the Aurors had ample experience hunting giants.

Ch. 415Hunting

Jon Hart joined Rufus Scrimgeour and the Aurors in an operation to hunt the giants allied with Voldemort. After disabling the guards and using sleeping-potion smoke to enter the caves, Jon woke a bound female giant with an antidote and cast Legilimency on her.

  • Jon chose to enlist the Ministry’s Aurors to eliminate the giants, believing they were beyond peaceful persuasion after joining Voldemort and causing Muggle deaths.
  • The Aurors dispelled Voldemort’s concealment, then bound and killed two giant guards by striking the vulnerable backs of their heads.
  • Jon filled a cave with smoke carrying Draught of Living Death, and the Aurors took antidotes before splitting up to search the caves.
  • Kingsley, Tonks, and another Auror bound a sleeping male giant and began floating him out while Jon continued deeper into the cave.
  • Jon found a sleeping female giant, bound her, scattered Devil’s Snare spores around her, and gave her the antidote.
  • As the female giant woke, Jon cast Legilimency on her.

Ch. 416Everything Is Ready

After the giant-hunting operation, Jon declined the Order of Merlin and traveled to the Isle of Man to reunite with Astoria. He had learned how to split the Blood Curse’s soul and gathered a plan to make a Horcrux, but its effect on Astoria remained uncertain.

  • Minister Amelia Bones offered Jon an Order of Merlin, but he refused and avoided explaining how he had survived Voldemort’s Killing Curse.
  • Alastor Moody helped Jon leave the Ministry offices, and Jon told him he could not return to Hogwarts yet because Astoria was on the Isle of Man.
  • Jon used a Ministry Portkey to reach Douglas Harbour, escaped Muggle vagrants with a Confundus Charm, and headed for Astoria’s hotel.
  • Jon considered the herbs and Horcrux ingredients he needed, concluding that he could ask the Ministry for a giant facing execution while worrying that the Horcrux might damage Astoria’s soul.
  • Jon reunited with Astoria and told her the plan could begin once they obtained a few ingredients, but she insisted he restrain or lock her up so she could sleep safely.

Ch. 417Beginning the Horcrux-Making Process

Jon gathered the ingredients needed to make a Horcrux and kept Astoria hidden in his expanded suitcase. After rejecting Greengrass Manor as too dangerous, he said the place for making the Horcrux should not be chosen by them alone.

  • Jon bought hallucinogenic herbs from a London pharmacy using a wooden stick to influence the Potions Master.
  • Jon checked into a Muggle hotel, received a box of potion ingredients by owl, and carried the supplies and dinner into his expanded suitcase.
  • Jon visited Astoria in the locked room inside his suitcase and passed her dinner through the small window in the iron door.
  • Jon told Astoria he had gathered the missing Horcrux ingredients, and she suggested returning to Greengrass Manor.
  • Jon rejected the suggestion because he believed Death Eaters were watching Greengrass Manor, then said someone else should help decide where they made the Horcrux.

Ch. 418Lucky Potion (Second Update)

Jon used Felix Felicis to improve their chances of making a Horcrux and followed his luck-guided instincts toward Hogwarts with Astoria. The chapter left them boarding the Knight Bus under the false identities Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson.

  • Astoria offered Jon the full vial of Felix Felicis, fearing the potion might bring the possessing monster good luck if she drank it.
  • Jon drank all the Felix Felicis and decided that they should return to Hogwarts Castle.
  • Jon opened Astoria's cell and took her with him out of the suitcase and the hotel.
  • Jon waited on the street, and the Knight Bus arrived to take them to Hogwarts.
  • Jon told Stan Shunpike that he was Draco Malfoy and introduced Astoria as Pansy Parkinson.

Ch. 419The Dark Lord's Gift (First Update)

Jon used the Knight Bus to travel with Astoria to Hogsmeade while disguised as Draco Malfoy, and discovered that Bellatrix Lestrange had used Stan Shunpike to deliver a gift from the Dark Lord. After taking the box and wiping Stan’s memory, Jon led Astoria toward a secret passage into Hogwarts.

  • Jon paid Stan Shunpike to take him and Astoria to Hogsmeade on the Knight Bus.
  • Jon found Stan waiting in his compartment with a box meant for Draco Malfoy and used Legilimency to uncover Bellatrix Lestrange’s instructions.
  • Jon learned that Bellatrix had placed Stan under the Imperius Curse and that the box was a gift from the Dark Lord.
  • Jon took the box, erased Stan’s memory with Obliviate, and placed the gift in his suitcase.
  • The Knight Bus dropped Jon and Astoria in Hogsmeade, and Jon said he knew a secret passage through the Hog's Head.

Ch. 420Beginning with the Room of Requirement

Jon and Astoria entered Hogwarts through a secret passage hidden behind Ariana Dumbledore’s portrait at The Hog’s Head, then reached the Room of Requirement. Jon prepared to begin making a Horcrux with Astoria there, and she climbed into the curtained bathtub while he promised not to look.

  • Jon and Astoria went to The Hog’s Head, where Aberforth Dumbledore let them inside and Jon slipped into the Dungeon.
  • Jon restored Ariana Dumbledore’s portrait, revealing a secret passage that led into Hogwarts, and he and Astoria entered it.
  • Jon brought Astoria to the Room of Requirement and explained its magic while she explored the furnished room.
  • Jon arranged the Horcrux materials and prepared a potion from hallucinogenic herbs based on a memory he had seen through Legilimency.
  • Jon told Astoria he would begin by smoothing the outline of her soul, and Astoria climbed into the curtained bathtub after making him promise not to peek.

Ch. 421Horcrux Prototype

Jon prepared a Horcrux prototype using a golden locket and Fiendfyre while Astoria coated herself in a soul-smoothing liquid. The locket still needed a soul before it could become a complete Horcrux, and Jon and Astoria waited for the preparations to take effect.

  • Jon weighed and ground the Kabbalah Soul Tree branch and prepared the other ingredients for the Horcrux.
  • Astoria spread the hallucinogenic soul-smoothing liquid over herself while Jon finished processing the ingredients.
  • Jon chose a decorative golden locket as the vessel and used Fiendfyre to fuse the prepared powders into it.
  • Astoria emerged wrapped in a blanket and told Jon she felt sticky and tired.
  • Jon handed Astoria the locket and said they needed to wait several hours for the liquid and vessel to adapt before the final step.

Ch. 422The Worst-Case Scenario (Second Update)

Jon helped Astoria begin splitting her soul by having her kill a captured giant, hoping she could transfer the Blood Curse’s soul into a Horcrux. Instead, the Blood Curse proved stronger than Astoria and began taking over her body, leaving Jon desperate for a way to save her.

  • Jon brought an unconscious, bound giant into the Room of Requirement and explained that Astoria had to kill her to split her soul.
  • Jon taught Astoria how to use a pistol, and she shot the giant dead.
  • Astoria suffered intense pain as her soul began splitting, then clutched the Horcrux and tried to force the Blood Curse’s soul into it.
  • Jon realized the Blood Curse had become stronger than Astoria and that her own soul was entering the Horcrux instead.
  • Jon considered destroying the Horcrux to stop the Blood Curse, but feared that doing so would destroy part of Astoria’s soul and leave her even weaker.

Ch. 423Dumbledore (First Update)

Jon tried to use a Horcrux to save Astoria Greengrass, but Dumbledore intervened and explained that she had at most one week to live. Dumbledore then revealed that another way to save her existed.

  • Jon considered using the Horcrux to restore Astoria but decided it might leave her a dead soul, and prepared to destroy it instead.
  • Dumbledore arrived and used the Elder Wand to suppress the Blood Curse and return Astoria’s soul from the Horcrux to her body.
  • Dumbledore told Jon that the Blood Curse would devour Astoria’s soul within a week at most.
  • Jon despaired that his efforts had failed, but Dumbledore said there was another way to save Astoria.

Ch. 424Not Over Yet (Second Update)

Dumbledore sacrificed himself to draw the Blood Curse from Astoria into a Horcrux, and Jon destroyed it, freeing her. As Jon grieved over Dumbledore’s death, his sixth sense warned him that the effects of Felix Felicis had not yet ended.

  • Dumbledore explained that a powerful wizard’s willing sacrifice could weaken the Blood Curse and bind it to a Horcrux.
  • Dumbledore restrained Jon with vines and told him he had chosen to trade his life for Astoria’s.
  • Dumbledore returned the locket to Astoria, then let the giant snake kill him as his soul drove the Blood Curse into the Horcrux.
  • Jon destroyed the locket with Avada Kedavra, lifting the Blood Curse and leaving Astoria alive and healthy.
  • Jon wept over Dumbledore’s body, then sensed through his sixth sense that Felix Felicis was still affecting him.

Ch. 425Deathly Hallows

After Albus Dumbledore died, Jon followed Felix Felicis to Gryffindor Tower, where Harry Potter dropped the Invisibility Cloak while fleeing from him. Jon realized he now possessed all three Deathly Hallows and, guided by the voice in his head, prepared a Portkey.

  • Jon followed Felix Felicis toward Gryffindor Tower and collided with Harry Potter, who had been following Draco Malfoy under the Invisibility Cloak.
  • Harry recognized Jon, whom he believed Voldemort had killed, panicked, and fled into the Gryffindor common room, leaving the Invisibility Cloak behind.
  • Jon picked up the Invisibility Cloak and realized he held all three Deathly Hallows: it, the Resurrection Stone, and Dumbledore's Wand.
  • Jon returned to the Room of Requirement, placed the three Hallows together beside Dumbledore, and listened for guidance from the voice in his head.
  • Jon found a pair of leather boots in his suitcase and cast Portus on them.

Ch. 426Mastering Death (First Update)

Jon brought Dumbledore’s body to Gellert Grindelwald at Nurmengard Tower, hoping to save him. Grindelwald recognized the three Deathly Hallows and hurried Jon toward the top of the tower to attempt to master death.

  • Jon told Gellert Grindelwald that Dumbledore appeared dead, then brought his body out of the suitcase.
  • Grindelwald mourned Dumbledore until he saw the Invisibility Cloak and realized there might still be a chance.
  • Jon revealed the Resurrection Stone and Dumbledore’s wand, completing the set of three Deathly Hallows.
  • Grindelwald took Dumbledore’s cloaked body and ran toward the top of the tower, with Jon following.

Ch. 427The Tale of the Three Brothers

Grindelwald explained the history of the Three Brothers and speculated that the Deathly Hallows could restore the dead by preserving and rebuilding a soul. Jon used the Elder Wand on Dumbledore and found himself in a strange, unfinished place resembling King's Cross Station.

  • Grindelwald laid the invisible Dumbledore on a stone bed and placed a small stone on him, while Jon sensed Dumbledore's faint soul energy beneath the Invisibility Cloak.
  • Grindelwald told Jon that Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus Peverell had created the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Invisibility Cloak, then recounted how Cadmus's fiancée Catherine Slytherin poisoned him and hid the stone.
  • Grindelwald connected Ignotus's granddaughter Iolanthe Peverell to Hardwin Linfred and Linfred of Stinchcombe, whom he identified as the origin of the Potter name.
  • Grindelwald theorized that the Hallows could restore the dead by protecting a soul fragment and reconstructing the soul, while the Elder Wand served an unknown crucial role.
  • Jon picked up the Elder Wand and pointed it at Dumbledore, causing Grindelwald and Nurmengard Tower to vanish as Jon found himself in a misty place resembling King's Cross Station.

Ch. 428King's Cross Station

Jon met Dumbledore in a liminal place he recognized as King's Cross Station and persuaded him to return to life. Dumbledore and Grindelwald reconciled, then set off on a journey together, while Jon kept strands of their hair for Polyjuice Potion.

  • Jon found Dumbledore in a bright, empty hall and persuaded him to board the train back to life, despite the loss of the Deathly Hallows' power.
  • Jon and Dumbledore awoke on the stone bed, and Grindelwald embraced Dumbledore after learning he had returned.
  • Dumbledore and Grindelwald agreed to let go of their old grudges and travel around the world together, starting in the East.
  • Jon learned the Invisibility Cloak, Resurrection Stone, and Elder Wand had lost their Deathly Hallow powers, and Dumbledore said the Elder Wand's allegiance belonged to Jon.
  • Grindelwald used his power to collapse Nurmengard Tower, then he and Dumbledore departed on a giant Lethifold after giving Jon strands of their hair.

  • Daphne asked whether Jon Hart was still at the school.

Ch. 430Hogwarts Headmasters (Second Update)

Jon disguised himself as Albus Dumbledore and entered the Headmaster’s Office, where the former headmasters realized they had mistaken him for the supposedly dead Albus. Jon revealed that Professor Dumbledore was alive but away on a spontaneous trip, and Headmaster Dippet arranged for a portrait painter to come to Hogwarts.

  • Phineas Black told the former headmasters that he had seen Albus sacrifice his life in the Room of Requirement, and they mourned him.
  • Albus Dumbledore reached the Eighth Floor, set the password as “treacle tart,” and entered the Headmaster’s Office.
  • The headmasters were shocked to see Albus, but Phineas recognized that he was Jon in disguise.

Ch. 431McGonagall and Granger (Part One)

Jon Hart settled into the Headmaster’s Office and impersonated Albus Dumbledore when Minerva McGonagall visited. He arranged for McGonagall to send Hermione Granger to his office after lunch, leaving Jon to prepare for their meeting.

  • Fawkes returned to the Headmaster’s Office, pecked Jon after he teased her, and then accepted herbs while Jon collected some phoenix tears.
  • Jon moved his belongings, potions, and herbs into the office and prepared a cup of pale violet liquid before McGonagall arrived.
  • Jon drank the liquid and used it to convincingly pose as Albus Dumbledore when McGonagall entered.
  • McGonagall asked about the changed password and Halloween preparations, and Jon answered while pretending to review documents.
  • Jon asked McGonagall to send Hermione Granger to the office around one in the afternoon, and McGonagall agreed.

Ch. 432McGonagall and Granger (Part 2)

Jon, disguised as Albus Dumbledore, learned the former headmaster’s habits while keeping his impersonation secret. He retrieved Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak through Hermione Granger and convinced her that Jon was not at Hogwarts, though she suspected he might be spying among the Death Eaters.

Ch. 433The Headmaster's Remains

Hermione returned Harry’s Invisibility Cloak and grew suspicious when he recalled that Dumbledore always called him by his first name. Meanwhile, Karkaroff’s remains arrived at Durmstrang, where Headmaster Vance discussed the collapse of Nurmengard and the possible escape of his master.

  • Hermione returned Harry’s Invisibility Cloak and passed along Dumbledore’s warning about his carelessness.
  • Harry said Dumbledore had always called him Harry, leaving Hermione distracted as Ron arrived with Lavender.
