Background / History

Qing Lin first appeared as an abused young servant in the Barren Iron Mercenary Group at Stone Desert City. A mercenary insulted her as a “snake-person mongrel” after she accidentally spilled wine on Lu Yu. Lu Yu intervened, noticed the faint green scales on her arm, and later discovered injuries, calluses, and untreated wounds on her hands. He gave her medicine and decided to take her away from the mercenary group. 17

Xiao Ding approved Qing Lin’s transfer to Lu Yu. Xiao Yi Xian began teaching her the Mysterious Yellow Breathing Technique, meridians, and acupoints, while Lu Yu supplied auxiliary cultivation pills and Foundation Establishment Spirit Liquid. 20

After Qing Lin reached Dou Practitioner, her Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils awakened. When Lu Yu tested her with a returning dagger, her eyes emitted jade-green light and released an invisible force that knocked the blade away. She resolved to master this power and avenge Xiao Yi Xian after the Mo Family’s attempt to abduct her led to Xiao Yi Xian being injured. 25 26

Lu Yu eventually directed her toward insect and beast control rather than relying solely on her pupil technique. He gave her the Insect Control Heart Sutra, personally trained her combat ability, and began seeking an appropriately powerful Natal Gu for her. 45 66

Qing Lin was initially extremely timid, soft-spoken, and accustomed to enduring mistreatment. Even when Lu Yu and Xiao Yi Xian found her injuries, she attempted to dismiss them as the result of her own clumsiness. Their kindness gradually gave her hope and allowed her natural innocence to emerge. 17
