The shrill whistle echoed through the cold, motionless air, and cheers and applause erupted from the stands.
Hermione's heart was filled with concern for Harry and Ron's safety. She did not watch what the other champions were doing, and she temporarily cast aside the worry in her heart—whether she would "lose all reputation" if she performed poorly. She only wanted to bring her two friends back as quickly as possible.
After taking off her shoes and socks, Hermione drew a deep breath. She caught the wand slipping from her sleeve cuff, and once a bubble shimmering with faint colors enclosed her head, she exhaled heavily. After one last look at the pale sunlight, she leaped up and, with a splash and another burst of applause, plunged into the water.
Her vision suddenly darkened. The instant her tracksuit touched the water, its material changed, becoming as form-fitting as a swimsuit and outlining her lovely figure.
Hermione was once again glad that Professor Breen's Monitoring Mirror had not followed her down. Otherwise, it would have been terribly embarrassing for everyone to see her like this.
The bubble continuously warped under the impact of the rippling water, making visibility poor. Hermione calmly let herself sink to the lakebed. When her feet touched the sand and gravel below, she pointed her wand at her tender, slender, straight legs. Amid a searing heat that felt like melting, a fish tail covered in pale blue scales replaced her closed legs, extending upward until it wrapped around the part of her body that was usually concealed beneath loose clothing, though in truth it was full of tension.
With just a light flick, Hermione shot several feet upward, floating halfway down in the water.
