Amelia was certain that, three tables away from her, one of the two wizards meeting there had placed an Erumpent horn on the table. It was a Class B contraband item—rare and dangerous.
It was rare because Erumpents, being large and ferocious beasts, were not particularly numerous to begin with. Moreover, their horns were non-regenerative. If an Erumpent lost its horn, it would never grow another for the rest of its life.
It was dangerous because if it was stored or handled incorrectly and the deadly liquid concealed within the horn leaked out, the resulting explosion would be enough to blow this pub apart!
Amelia stared fixedly at the horn, her lips pale and cold sweat beading on her forehead and back. Yet the two people trading it were utterly unconcerned. The buyer tossed out a bag of gold, and after the seller checked it and found no issue, the buyer took the horn and casually stuffed it into his Wizard Robe.
And this dangerous transaction was far from unique. There were several similarly high-risk, grave crimes being conducted throughout the pub hall.
What should she do?
Amelia looked lost and somewhat helpless. Should she arrest these people directly, or rush back now and call for backup?
The Congress was already overwhelmed by the highly dangerous magical creatures missing from the magical creature nature reserve. If those creatures appeared in the Muggle world, the consequences would be disastrous. The wizard trading the Erumpent horn might well be a poacher!
Having completed their transaction, the two clinked glasses. After each drained the last of their drinks, they rose and left.
The buyer joined a card game at another table, while the seller, now with the gold, had no intention of lingering and headed for the door.
