With limitless hopes for the future, Andy eagerly opened Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1.
"Lumos!"
Following the standard wand movement described in the book, Andy gave his wand a light wave and softly recited the incantation. A faint glow immediately appeared at its tip.
"So this is the Lumos Charm? It's surprisingly easy!"
As the most basic of all spells, the Lumos Charm could hardly fail as long as a Little Wizard followed the steps described in the book precisely.
Even if a Little Wizard had the brains of a troll, they could probably succeed after a few tries.
However, the textbook's explanation of the Lumos Charm did not consist of only the wand movement and incantation.
Its coverage of the Lumos Charm was extremely comprehensive, including magical principles, applicable situations, and the changes possible after mastery—such as, but not limited to, throwing the Lumos Charm outward.
In short, as a First Year textbook, this book was undoubtedly qualified.
"Haha! Andy, you're finished!"
Isabel suddenly burst into gleeful laughter. "I heard Little Wizards aren't allowed to cast magic outside school. Hogwarts is going to expel you any second now."
"Let me think, Andy. You should be the first Little Wizard in Hogwarts history to be expelled before even enrolling, right? Congratulations, you've made history."
The little girl rolled about on the sofa in delight.
"Idiot!" Andy muttered. My foolish sister! To stop underage Little Wizards from casting magic outside school, the Ministry of Magic first established the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Wizards Act, then set up the Trace to monitor Little Wizards casting magic outside school.
Based on the Collins Family's generations of testing the boundaries of Wizarding World law, the so-called Trace was naturally no secret.
First, only Little Wizards who had enrolled at Hogwarts were monitored by the Trace.
And Andy had not yet officially enrolled.
Second, the Trace was not fully functional. It monitored an area, mainly targeting Muggle-born Little Wizards, supposedly to prevent the Wizarding World from being exposed.
As for Little Wizards born into wizarding families, as long as an adult wizard was nearby, the Trace completely lost its intended purpose.
Of course, if no adult wizard was nearby, even Little Wizards from wizarding families would leave detectable traces of spellcasting when they used magic outside.
Ignoring Isabel, Andy silently opened the system and waved his wand.
"Lumos!"
The red liquid inside the sphere seemed to have increased compared to a month and a half ago, but Andy still had not figured out the principle behind its growth.
Andy had a guess, but it had been difficult to verify before.
"Could it be related to the attribute prompts?"
With that question in mind, Andy waved his wand repeatedly.
"Lumos!"
"Lumos!"
After trying more than a dozen times in a row, Andy keenly noticed that the red liquid inside the sphere seemed to have risen slightly.
The increase was tiny. If he had not watched carefully, Andy might not even have noticed it.
Over the past five years, Andy had never stopped studying the system.
The system had a total of ten attributes.
On the left were: Charms, Transfiguration, Dark Arts, Alchemy, and Divination.
On the right were: Magic Power, Soul, Mind, Thought, and Will.
Andy's previous guess had been that the red liquid inside the sphere could only increase when he trained and improved the abilities represented by the five attributes on the left.
Over the years, Andy had tried all sorts of methods, yet he had only obtained one Potential Point.
Practicing control over magic power did not actually count toward the Charms attribute, and Andy had previously been unable to read books related to spellcasting.
Yet the red liquid inside the sphere had still increased, even filling up once and giving Andy a Potential Point.
It had only been a guess before.
Now, it had been confirmed.
Over the past five years, Andy had improved two attributes in total. His Magic Power attribute had risen from 1 to 2, while his Soul attribute had gone from 3 to 4.
Both had improved passively.
Other than that, his originally unstable magic power had gradually stabilized.
And the gradual stabilization of his magic power was effectively an indirect improvement to related abilities such as Charms, Transfiguration, and Dark Arts.
After trying countless methods, these were among the last remaining possibilities Andy could think of.
"So next... I need to learn spells, then begin practicing them in large quantities."
In other words...
"If improving the abilities of the left-side attributes can really increase the red liquid inside the sphere, then Dark Arts must be included within my 'scope of study.'"
I will learn every spell in the world.
Understand the truth of magic.
Pursue immortality and power.
My wand represents isolation, estrangement from the world, longevity, and rebirth.
"This character setup feels really familiar."
Andy fell into thought.
"If I get into Slytherin, then keep a bunch of venomous snakes as pets, and release snakes to bite people whenever I fight..."
Am I the Wizarding World's Snake Uncle? Is there an ambition in my eyes that I can't hide?
"Come to think of it, Slytherin House doesn't seem so bad."
Slytherin House's original values were ambition, leadership, cunning, determination, and resourcefulness.
However, as certain rumors about Slytherin himself emerged, Slytherin House became a symbol of pure-blood status.
"Forget it. I'll just let nature take its course when it comes to House sorting."
In Andy's view, Hogwarts' greatest treasure was the collection of books accumulated in its library over thousands of years.
Perhaps it was also the greatest treasure in the Wizarding World.
As long as he learned the magic within them, he would naturally become a powerful wizard.
That evening, Kyle returned home from work. Helen had already prepared a lavish dinner, and a faint fragrance filled the Living Room.
"Andy, you must be thrilled today, huh?"
Kyle asked eagerly, "I haven't asked yet. What material is your wand made of?"
"Pine and Phoenix Feather." Andy had practiced magic all afternoon and was exhausted.
"Not bad. Phoenix Feather wands are rare, though pine is rather ordinary." Kyle was just an ordinary wizard. His judgment of a wand's quality came down to its wood and core.
Isabel quietly tattled, "Mom, Andy cast magic at home today."
"Be careful."
Helen looked at Andy and said, "If I'm not home, just read by yourself. Don't wave your wand around everywhere for no reason."
"Got it!" Andy nodded.
"Speaking of which..."
Kyle suddenly suggested, "Andy is old enough for school now. We should celebrate it somehow. The last time Andy and Isha saw their Grandfather and Grandfather was last Christmas."
"What do you think?" Kyle turned to Helen.
"Mm! Then I'll write to them tomorrow." Helen had no objection.
Andy looked at his three family members around the dining table and suddenly felt that he still differed somewhat from Snake Uncle's character setup.
