Background

Li Zong was a self-taught martial artist who built the Death Fist Society and its fortune through his fists. His influence extended across several cities around Mingguang, where the society ran black-boxing operations as well as drug, smuggling, and gambling businesses. He was regarded as the largest agent for Death Fighting Competitions in the area. 18 22

His early fighting career left him with numerous hidden injuries. Although he forcibly reached the Extraordinary Realm, the damage reduced his strength and impaired his ability to sense other martial artists' cultivation. 23 30

Li Zong had three named sons: Li Mingyuan, Li Mingsheng, and Li Minggui. Following Li Mingyuan's death at Su Ti's hands, Li Zong launched a campaign of revenge against Su Ti and the Dragon Gate Martial Hall. He promised control of the Death Fist Society to whichever surviving son could avenge their brother. 23

Li Zong was cruel, authoritarian, and feared even by his own confidants. He was willing to torture anyone merely suspected of involvement in his son's death and vowed to bury the culprit's entire family with Li Mingyuan. 22 23

Despite his temper, he was not reckless. He recognized Long Yuanzheng as a stronger opponent, backed down when direct confrontation was unfavorable, and used public martial challenges to bypass Long's protection and target Su Ti indirectly. 23 24

After Li Mingsheng's death, Li Zong suppressed his grief and anger in public, fulfilled the match's financial terms, and waited for a better opportunity to retaliate. His restraint concealed a calculated decision to ally with the Silver Ring Gate and eradicate the Dragon Gate completely. 55 66

Story Role / Major Arcs

Revenge for Li Mingyuan

After learning that Su Ti was likely responsible for Li Mingyuan's death, Li Zong began an immediate investigation and threatened to kill the culprit's entire family. He summoned Li Mingsheng and Li Minggui, turning revenge into a succession contest for the Death Fist Society. 23

At Wind and Cloud Manor, Li Zong displayed his authority with roughly one to two hundred society thugs and crossbows. Long Yuanzheng's superior killing intent forced him to abandon an open confrontation, so he accepted a five-million-yuan settlement while engineering a life-and-death challenge between Su Ti and Demon Mountain. 24 25

The Death Fighting Competitions

Li Zong hosted the public fight between Su Ti and Demon Mountain, intending to humiliate the Dragon Gate and have Su Ti killed before influential witnesses. Demon Mountain instead died in the ring, forcing Li Zong to announce Su Ti as the victor. 27 29

He then arranged a second match with Li Mingsheng, changing its terms into a ten-second death match without surrender. Su Ti killed Li Mingsheng, but Li Zong remained outwardly calm, paid the promised money, and concealed his intent to retaliate. 54 55

Alliance Against the Dragon Gate

Following Li Mingsheng's death, Li Zong grew withdrawn and joined the Silver Ring Gate. In exchange for helping them reorganize the Southern Saint Sect, he demanded the complete annihilation of the Dragon Gate. 66

Li Zong participated in the four-Extraordinary-master siege on Long Yuanzheng. His Black Death Fist injected toxins into Long Yuanzheng while Silver Ring Gate fighters, poison, and Death Fist Society crossbowmen wore the Dragon Gate Master down until he was killed. 76

Death Fist Society's Destruction

As an inner elder of the Silver Ring Gate, Li Zong preserved the Death Fist Society as an affiliated organization and gathered its strongest members to await Su Ti's revenge. He believed his guest elders, elite boxers, military crossbows, and nearly a hundred thugs could overwhelm any opponent. 79

Su Ti attacked Wind and Cloud Manor after attaining the Bodhisattva Fruit Position, slaughtering the society's forces and confronting Li Zong directly. Li Zong activated the Black Death Fist and later Black Death Stillness, but was ultimately killed by Su Ti's Vajra State. 80 81 82
