"I don't want you meddling."
Chen Xu froze when he heard that.
It was hard to imagine hearing such words from Luo Xiyun.
Only his ex-girlfriend had ever said that to him. It had been said in anger, but to his ears, it had also carried a hint of coquettishness. Unless a relationship had reached a certain point, a woman would not speak to another man that way.
At least, a woman like Luo Xiyun—who had told him to his face the day after he saved her, "You're not my type"—definitely would not use that tone with a man so casually.
His surprise lasted only a moment.
What followed was a touch of displeasure. He had kindly wanted to help treat her injury, yet she spoke to him like that. It was like pressing a warm face against someone's cold ass.
The first time his ex-girlfriend had said that to him, he had really turned around and left.
Still, Luo Xiyun was injured. He could not truly ignore her.
He gently switched off the lamp in his hand, then closed the door behind him. He deliberately used a little force, making it slam shut with a bang, but he remained standing where he was.
Luo Xiyun, lying face-down on the bed, thought he had truly left. She suddenly grabbed a pillow and hurled it with all her strength. Then her shoulders began to tremble incessantly, and before long, soft sobs could be heard.
"Uh—"
Chen Xu had not expected her to cry. For a moment, he felt somewhat awkward.
Even his ex-girlfriend had never lost control of her emotions like this in front of him.
Listening to her sobs, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind. Had he gone a little too far?
Over the past three months, he had never taken the initiative to approach Luo Xiyun. The main reason was that he did not want to make a fool of himself. Of course, a tiny part of it came from a small desire for revenge.
In reality, whether at work or in life, people always encountered unpleasant things. When they suffered grievances or unfair treatment, even if they were unhappy, they often had no choice but to endure it. That was the helplessness of reality.
But in this dream, there were naturally far fewer concerns.
Since Luo Xiyun had said she would never fall for him, if he still shamelessly kept trying to get close to her, then he would have no backbone at all.
From that moment on, he had decided to keep his distance from her. Of course, if she came to him for help on her own initiative, he would not refuse.
However, as though she were deliberately competing with him, she never took the initiative to interact with him either. And so, the two of them spent three months minding their own business. He believed that if not for today's typhoon, they would have remained this way until the dream ended.
That alone showed how stubborn Luo Xiyun was.
Chen Xu knew this was only a dream that would end in six months. So he could live each day in a relaxed state of mind, much like being on vacation, and he had been living quite comfortably.
Luo Xiyun was completely different. According to her role in this dream, everything here was truly happening to her. Naturally, she could not possibly have his mindset. During the first few months, she must have been suffering terribly inside.
Even in such an environment, she still wanted to hold on to her pride and refused to take the initiative to contact him, despite him living next door. That kind of spirit proved that she was both extremely stubborn and extremely proud.
Now, Luo Xiyun—the proud and stubborn woman Chen Xu remembered—was actually crying. And by sheer coincidence, he had seen it. That was rather awkward.
Thinking about it, though, it was not strange. She was still a young girl, after all. For the past few months, she had endured such immense pressure. Then today, she had encountered a typhoon, gotten injured, and been stranded halfway home. She had spent most of the day terrified. It was already impressive that she had not broken down on the spot.
Listening to her crying, Chen Xu softened a little and asked quietly, "Does your foot hurt badly?"
At his words, Luo Xiyun's trembling shoulders stiffened. She raised her head in shock, tears still clinging to her long eyelashes and her nose red. She stared at him with a look of shock, anger, and humiliation, her lips slightly parted as though she had lost her voice.
Chen Xu switched the desk lamp back on, lighting up the entire bedroom. Then he took out an ice pack, Yunnan Baiyao, bandages, and other items from the bag as he said, "Let me check your foot first and see whether you injured the bone."
As he spoke, he crouched down and reached for her foot.
Only when Luo Xiyun's foot was caught did she react. She jerked it back and said in mingled shame and anger, "Don't touch me."
Chen Xu immediately released her, lest he accidentally touch the injured spot and worsen her injury. Frowning, he said, "An injury is no small matter. This isn't the time to throw a tantrum."
Luo Xiyun glared at him with reddened eyes and gritted her teeth. "What business is it of yours?"
By now, Chen Xu could not be bothered to get angry with her. He pulled over a chair and sat down, deciding to reason with her properly. "No matter what, I never offended you, did I? I don't understand why you're so hostile toward me."
"I did save you before, but let's not talk about that. Just today, I braved this typhoon and drove for several hours, searching road after road. It wasn't easy for me to bring you back. It would have been one thing if you didn't say thank you, but you even lost your temper at me. Isn't that a little too much?"
Luo Xiyun's chest rose and fell rapidly, and her eyes turned even redder. Yet she said nothing more, merely turning her face away and refusing to look at him.
Seeing her reaction, Chen Xu shrugged and stood up. "Forget it. I'll leave the medicine here. Handle it yourself." With that, he picked up the bag and prepared to leave, not taking the rechargeable desk lamp with him.
After opening the door, he suddenly paused. "I know you don't like seeing me. Then hurry up and heal your injury. When the time comes, I definitely won't appear before you again."
With a bang, the door shut.
This time, Chen Xu really left and returned to his own room. Although Luo Xiyun's attitude had left him slightly annoyed, he had not communicated with anyone for months. Today, he finally had someone to talk to. Even though there had been some conflict, he was still quite happy overall.
