Background / History
Lorenz Riel’s earlier identity was a Second Era Self-Evolving Library known as the “Dark Crown Node—Megastructure.” It was originally a Great Library built with aether raw stones and could stabilize a Lost Sea node. By the current era, most of its elvenized structures had failed after surviving multiple broken eras. 1194
In the Fourth Era, it was known as Ideal Country, a lost civilization built from the highest achievements of Mechanoid AI and steam science. Its later incarnation became Lorenz Riel, the City of Breezes. 638
The present City of Breezes is a Great Library scholar reserve academy protected by the Giant Tree of Breezes, Afadaratia. Its position at the intersection of the Present World and the Border makes it a key Pacific anchor point, likened to a pillar within the region’s gathering storm. 640 893
Its academy system is distributed across multiple demiplanes and Border-linked territories. Rail networks connect its outposts, academies, and distant facilities, including elevated rail lines that run between the sky and ground. 712
Structure

| Gatekeepers—Alijos | Border Gate operations and Abyss defense 756 847 |
| Tidal Surge | A partial anti-Abyss specialization formed after the Samoa Islands incident 756 |
| Quiet Forest Language | Forest academy connected to Life Lineage studies and renowned rail infrastructure 712 721 |
| Deep Sea Abyss—Julianster | Coastal academy associated with Watchers and deep-sea research 845 875 |
| Void Light—Fararella | Research faction associated with light, mechanical modification, and the later Divine Descent scandal 820 851 |
| Permanent Magnet—Lannabodu | Academy associated with magnetic and relic research 841 898 |
Governance
Lorenz Riel’s highest deliberative body is the Sage Council, which convenes behind the City of Breezes’ main campus. The council includes the deans of the great academies and is led in practice by senior figures such as Dean Constance. 847
- Dean Constance — Tier 5 Star Realm Grand Mage and headmaster; protects the academy’s fragile balance while opposing threats to the Pacific Border. 739 952 953
- Curator Yu — Great Library representative and Constance’s longtime associate. 740 783
- Elda-Alijos — Gatekeepers’ dean and a major defender of Lorenz Riel’s Border interests. 893 950
- Salik-Fararera — Dean of Void Light—Fararella; supported an unprecedented experiment before the radical faction’s collapse. 847 875
Appearance
Lorenz Riel is an immense academy-city built beneath a World Tree-like structure and surrounded by a vast protective barrier. Its European-style towers, courtyards, ancient stonework, steam infrastructure, and celestial decorations combine academic grandeur with relic-era technology. 847
- Soaring towers, low courtyards, winding paths, and large academic halls. 847 950
- Buildings carved with totems and star charts. 847
- A barrier known as the Breezy Bulwark protects the City of Breezes from external threats. 846
- Steam fountains and Dark Matter Tide phenomena are visible within its demiplane. 1130
- Its infrastructure includes Border Gates, spatial routes, rail trains, and inter-demiplane transport. 712 943
Research and Purpose
Lorenz Riel serves as a research academy, a Border defense institution, and a Great Library reserve. It preserves and develops knowledge while operating at a dangerous crossroads between the Present World, the Lost Sea, the Abyss, and older civilizations. 640 893
Its known research directions include:
- Sound, light, and electricity, represented by major academic factions. 828
- Spatial transmission and communication, including entangled-light tunnel construction and spacetime information transmission. 821
- Mechanical life modification and prosthetic technology, particularly within Void Light—Fararella. 851
- Gene research and Genetic Ascension, including investigations into Deity Genes and Divine Abominations. 721 924
- Evil God Insignia and Abyss-related power systems. 840
- Lost Sea, Border Gate, and relic studies, including the Wall of Hercules and Fifth Era ruins. 878 879
Internal Factions
Lorenz Riel is divided by competing academic and ideological currents. Its conflicts are not merely administrative; they concern the acceptable limits of research, intervention, and the use of Abyssal power. 826 847
- Conservatives — Favor research and containment without direct use of Abyssal power. They opposed the radical Divine Descent project and cooperated with Su Wen during the Manila crisis. 826 847 848
- Radicals — Sought to counter the Abyss using Abyssal power, Evil God Insignia, Genetic Ascension, and Divine Descendant experiments. 826 840
- Great Library scholars and Watchers — Represent institutional preservation, historical study, and long-term civilizational responsibility. 840 893
- Divine Descendants / Divine Abominations — Products or inheritors of fragmented divine power; some factions sought to use them to steal or imitate divine Authority. 840 862
Major Incidents
Blood Moon Border War
The betrayal of Saint Mourning—Hughie Fal’s deputy headmaster opened Abyssal pathways and led to the academy’s near-destruction. Lorenz Riel concealed information about the Blood Moon Border War, despite its escalating severity. 721 722
The crisis culminated in Ignaratty’s attempt to revive the Blood Moon Grand Monarch through the Abyss Gate. The conflict exposed that the Garland War and Saint Mourning’s destruction had been manipulated as parts of a larger Blood Moon Sect plan. 771
Rhine’s intervention ended the immediate catastrophe, after which the Lorenz Riel recruitment order was released. Saint Mourning—Hughie Fal remained in ruins, leaving only six academies available for recruitment. 780 783
Manila Banquet and Divine Descent Experiment
Radical scholars from three academies organized a covert banquet involving three Containers and fifteen Emblem Bearers. Their aim was to use Evil God Insignia and transformation methods to create an Abyssal puppet capable of accessing divine Authority. 840 841
Void Light—Fararella publicly demonstrated mechanical life modification by presenting Zhu Lei Si as a test subject for the Hallelovis-Ken Mechanical Prosthetic. 851
The Divine Descent experiment failed amid the Black Tide crisis. Its aftermath triggered an internal purge: Void Light—Fararella’s dean was imprisoned in Alijos Great Prison, other involved deans were warned or accused, and Saint Mourning’s graveyard seal was reinforced. 875
The wider scandal was subsequently suppressed in public reporting, which instead emphasized Rhine’s role in resolving the crisis. 875
Open Enrollment and Wall of Hercules Examination
Lorenz Riel opened large-scale public enrollment despite the likelihood of attracting spies and destabilizing forces. The expansion was understood as an attempt to introduce new forces and counterbalance internal tensions. 640 826
The entrance examination was later held around the Border Gate—Azure Sea: Wall of Hercules, an unusually dangerous site linked to Fifth Era relics, Lost Sea aether-stack disasters, and Abyssal contamination. 878 879 930
During the examination period, the City of Breezes received new students through the Einstein-Rosen Bridge after the Wall of Hercules operation. 943 950
Defenses and Vulnerabilities
- Lorenz Riel’s strategic position allows it to stabilize Lost Sea and Pacific Border nodes. 640 1194
- Saint Mourning—Hughie Fal, Gatekeepers—Alijos, and Tidal Surge are its principal institutions for resisting the Abyss. 756
- The City of Breezes is defended by the Breezy Bulwark and the Giant Tree of Breezes, Afadaratia. 846 893
- The academy maintains prisons and containment systems for Divine Abominations and other dangerous entities. 1032 1033
- Its defense capacity is undermined by factional conflict, infiltrators, traitors, weakened barriers, and the deterioration of its ancient supporting structures. 821 950 1194
