About 130 kilometers west of Samarinda city lay a dense rainforest. Tributaries of the Mahakam River wound through it, and speedboats occasionally sped across the river's surface.
These speedboats belonged to the East African military and mainly transported experimental equipment for testing in tropical hot and humid jungle regions. Their final destination was Gers Testing Ground deep within the rainforest.
The testing ground belonged to the East African Military Equipment Research Institute, codenamed Institute 3207. Institute 3207 had a branch in Samarinda city, while its headquarters was located in Bella City, East Africa.
