After the capital relocation, the East African Military Region was also reorganized. The former Western Military Region and Central Military Region were consolidated into the Central Military Region, Eastern Military Region, and Western Military Region.
At the same time, the former Nile Military Region and Northern Military Region were reorganized into the Northwestern Military Region and Northeastern Military Region, while the Southern Military Region underwent no major changes.
The Nile Military Region's renaming had much to do with the vast changes in its jurisdiction. It included the Azande Plateau, the Nile River Basin, and other regions, so the name Nile Military Region clearly no longer matched reality.
Based on its location, Northern Military Region would have been more suitable, but East Africa already had a Northern Military Region. Thus, based on the positions of the two military regions, they were simply designated the Northwestern Military Region and Northeastern Military Region.
With this change, the number of military regions across East Africa rose from five to six. The additional Eastern Military Region had evolved from the former Central Military Region, which had First Town as its core.
A large number of the Western Military Region's eastern territories were incorporated into the Central Military Region. By the same token, Southwest Province (Namibia) was placed under the Western
