As Tesla spoke of the history of electricity's development, his eyes seemed to shine. To Tesla, it was all as familiar as the treasures in his own house, for he himself was the scholarly prodigy type.
Professor Kyle said, "Heh heh, let's hope so. But I still have to hurry to class now, so carry on with your work!"
He had not come to listen to Tesla lecture on physics. Then he rode the bicycle newly issued by the East African government toward the school.
Watching Professor Kyle's departing figure vanish into the distance, Tesla laughed as well. After spending time together these past days, he had found Professor Kyle to be a good neighbor. The two had become friends despite their difference in age.
"Mom, I'm leaving!"
"Mhm. Come back early."
After greeting his mother, who was busy tending the garden, Tesla also headed leisurely toward the school.
Tesla's father had passed away the year before, so his mother was the most important person in the household. His father had been an Orthodox priest, and his mother was likewise the daughter of an Orthodox priest. Thus, Tesla's parents had once hoped that he would become a priest as well.
However, Tesla still embarked on the road of a scientist. Perhaps that had something to do with the other inventor relatives in his family. More importantly, his parents had hoped he would become a priest after graduation, while he himself wanted to be an engineer.
Just as Tesla finished high school, he contracted cholera. He lay in bed for nine months without recovering. During his grave illness, Tesla begged his father, hoping to study engineering. His father agreed to send him to a polytechnic institute once he recovered. Tesla ultimately made a full recovery.
That cholera outbreak was the one
