Background / History
Calamity Beasts emerged alongside spatial rifts, beginning a war that forced humanity to mobilize its weapons and reorganize nations around resisting beast tides. Their assaults destroyed cities, displaced civilians, and drove the revival of martial arts as humanity’s principal means of resistance. 1
Forty-seven years into the invasion, humanity had survived and produced increasingly powerful martial artists, while Calamity Beast incursions remained a constant threat around Space Gates and war bases. 70 176 Beasts from the Otherworld continued to besiege human bases in such numbers that elite martial-university students were deployed to hunt them and relieve pressure on defenses. 385
Humanity eventually gained the ability to operate Space Gates, including deliberately opening them for organized hunts and battlefield clearing. 145 618
Appearance
Calamity Beasts are animal-modeled creatures rather than insect-like lifeforms, but their appearance varies dramatically by species and level. 275
- Many possess mountain-like bodies, hardened hides, sharp claws, and fangs capable of tearing through steel structures. 1
- Low-level species include the 500-kilogram Iron-Spike Boar, which has rough black hide, iron spikes, upward-curving tusks, and red predatory eyes. 96
- High-level individuals can reach fortress-like proportions; the Steel Bone Giant Tiger stands more than 20 meters tall, while Ninth Level beasts exert palpable life-pressure even as corpses. 302 515
- The Tenth Level Calamity Flame Dragon exceeds 800 meters in length, with black scales, lava-like fissures, twelve wings, twisted horns, and a flame-spewing maw. 467
Behavior and Intelligence
Ordinary Calamity Beasts instinctively attack and devour humans, often charging directly into populated areas after emerging from Space Gates. 96 976 They are generally considered unintelligent compared with the Demon Race. 501
Their behavior becomes more dangerous at higher levels. The Mountain Moving Ape repeatedly escaped human forces, grew stronger after each appearance, and showed intelligence suggesting an evolution toward a Demon Beast. 223 618 In battle, some species become increasingly bloodthirsty or enter crisis-induced states that greatly enhance their physical capabilities. 213
Abilities & Traits
Physical Strength and Durability
Calamity Beasts rely on overwhelming size, hides, claws, fangs, horns, and mass to overrun defenses.
- Iron-Spike Boar tusks can smash through tables and charge with the force of a heavy vehicle. 96
- Ninth Level specimens can resist conventional military fire; armor-piercing shells failed to damage the Black-Gold Falcon, while lasers left only minor marks on the Platinum Evil Tiger. 536
- Tenth Level beasts can devastate war bases: the Sandstorm Behemoth Lizard required five Ninth Realm Martial Artists to kill, at the cost of one of them. 481
Divine Abilities
High-level Calamity Beasts may manifest species-specific emergency powers, referred to as Divine Abilities.
- Ghost Tooth Great Shark — enters a bloodthirsty state when cornered, losing sanity while gaining major boosts to physical ability and speed. 213
- Magma Sparrow — produces intense internal heat and spews magma in a crisis. 213
- Most Level 7–8 beasts instead experience a brief but substantial enhancement of physical fitness. 213
- Martial artists are taught to kill high-level beasts before these abilities can be activated. 213
Beast Tide Warfare
Calamity Beasts emerge in massive waves from Space Gates and threaten targets through numbers as much as individual strength.
- Small, medium, and large Space Gates are limited to Tier 3, Tier 6, and Tier 9 beasts respectively. 96
- Super-large tides can contain multiple Space Gates, several Ninth Level beasts, and a Tenth Level threat. 536 584
- Higher-level Demon Beast entities can manipulate large numbers of ordinary Calamity Beasts and direct beast tides. 501

Relationship to Other Groups
- Demon Race — Calamity Beasts are artificial cannon fodder created by the Demon Race; ordinary beasts are considered inferior in intelligence and overall capability to Demon Beasts. 501 628
- Calamity Beast Race — a separate Demon Race vassal species described as a refined form of Calamity Beast. Its members gain higher intelligence after reaching the Cosmic Third Realm and combine traits associated with Demons and humans. 1071
- Humanity — humanity’s principal enemy during the Beast Tide war; martial artists hunt them for defense, Merit Points, meat, blood, crystals, and cultivation materials. 1 509 566
Uses of Calamity Beast Remains
- Cultivation resources — flesh, blood, crystals, and Soul Essence are consumed or used to improve physical fitness, Qi and Blood, and Mental Power. 423 566
- Mental cultivation — Disaster Beast Diagrams allow practitioners of the Calamities Bestiary techniques to visualize and battle beast forms within their Consciousness Space. 178 179 370
- Equipment materials — the Black Gold Dragon Spear was forged using the horns of the Calamity Flame Dragon. 586
- Merit rewards — hunting Calamity Beasts earns Merit Points, with Ninth Level targets worth at least tens of millions. 618
