Even an eccentric like Hisoka, who always lingered on the fringes of the Phantom Troupe, was very polite toward him and quite wary of him—in terms of intellect. Shalnark was practically the Troupe's nanny, caring equally for every member. Whenever the leader was absent, he and Franklin, who was like an elder, could mediate and balance all sorts of discord within the Troupe. As the Troupe's strategist and Chrollo's key adviser, Shalnark held an extremely important position within the group.
Major orders were generally issued by the leader, but on the scene, Shalnark was sometimes entrusted with command.
Known as the Troupe's underground commander, if Chrollo had been killed by Kurapika back then, Shalnark would probably have been the man most likely to inherit the position of leader.
After saying all that, it was not difficult to see that Shalnark's style and position within the Troupe were similar to Morin's in certain ways.
It could even be said that they were the same type of person.
If they were truly compared, Morin was an enhanced version of Shalnark.
Even if there were areas where Morin was inferior to Shalnark, he could still make up for them with his numerous gadgets.
