Background / History

Su Cheng grew up in Wang Su Village after being adopted by an elderly widower. Following his adoptive father’s death, he lived alone until his Martial Soul awakening. Village Chief Wang Pan secured him a work-study place at Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy despite his meager 0.5 Innate Spirit Power. 1

At his awakening, Su Cheng gained access to the Villain Life Simulator. He selected its highest-difficulty mission, “Destroy Spirit Hall,” and entered a simulated life with Chen Xin as his adoptive father. There, he compensated for his poor sword aptitude by studying medicine, anatomy, herbs, and basic sword forms. 1 2

His medical expertise enabled him to develop a method for exceeding conventional Soul Ring absorption limits. After proving it with a 630-year first ring, he published his theories across the continent, gaining fame as the author of Counterattack of Ordinary People. 3 6 7

Following the first simulation, Su Cheng returned to reality with a transformed body, Sword Intent, the Longevity Sword, and the Innate Array Diagram. He entered Notting City, later joined Heaven Dou Royal Academy, became Chen Xin’s disciple, and built relationships with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School and Dugu Bo. 48 61 63 72

Personality

Su Cheng is analytical, ambitious, and highly pragmatic. He treats knowledge as a weapon equal to cultivation, repeatedly using medical theory, Soul Ring research, political manipulation, and long-term planning to overcome opponents with greater innate talent. 3 31 79

He is confident to the point of arrogance in confrontations, but generally favors preparation over reckless force. Even when facing stronger enemies, he searches for leverage, weaknesses, and escape routes rather than relying solely on direct combat. 11 86 217 321

Despite his manipulative tendencies, Su Cheng is protective toward people he considers important. He mentors Qian Renxue, assists Ning Rongrong and Dugu Yan with medicine, and seeks solutions that minimize casualties during Spirit Hall’s expansion. 27 70 72 250

Appearance

Su Cheng is initially described as an ordinary-looking boy with a frail foundation caused by his low Innate Spirit Power. His appearance and bearing change substantially as his Five Elements and Sword Dao develop. 1 137

  • Originally manifests a shabby, rusty Iron Sword Martial Soul. 1
  • His early simulated Martial Soul appears as a cracked Broken Sword. 3 11
  • After completing the Five Elements cycle, his black hair temporarily turns dark blue during transformation. 137
  • His mature presence becomes natural and restrained, likened to a sharp blade concealed within its sheath. 137
  • Possesses a dark-golden-patterned external Spirit Bone on his forehead, the True Sight Eye. 123

  • Allows Spirit Masters to surpass conventional Soul Ring age limits. 3 6
  • Becomes widely known through Su Cheng’s published research. 6 7
  • Depends on the user’s physique and remains subject to individual variation. 21

Severing Meridians and Continuing Qi Method

A Self-Created Soul Skill technique that improves the speed and continuity of Soul Skill activation. 30

  • Allows near-instant activation of multiple Soul Skills. 30
  • Lets Su Cheng overwhelm Qian Renxue through rapid sword-skill sequences despite her superior raw power. 30
  • Its activation speed improves further after Su Cheng obtains the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone. 123

  • Its use can be energy-intensive against targets with exceptionally complex fate trajectories. 371

True Power

A higher-order power formed from the fusion of body, soul, will, and energy. Su Cheng identifies it as a path toward understanding and unifying the true self. 303 344
