Alexander Pierce was still deeply puzzled, holding his coffee elegantly before his chest as he stared strangely at He-El and Nick Fury in the surveillance footage.
Were the two of them really just sitting there drinking black tea?
Alexander Pierce held his coffee, about to bring it to his lips for a sip, when Nick Fury's encrypted landline rang.
Alexander Pierce paused with the coffee near his lips, letting it hover back before his chest. With his other hand, he pressed the eavesdropping button, a faint smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
After all, as the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., it was only natural for him to monitor the entire building and all of S.H.I.E.L.D., secretly helping Nick Fury guide the organization's direction.
The sound of the encrypted call began to come through the room.
"Nick, I just inspected S.H.I.E.L.D.'s armaments and found some serious problems."
"Mr. President, what problems?"
"The missiles on the fighter jets and the firearms used by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s armed forces are somewhat outdated and lack sufficient firepower. Can such combat strength really guard against newly emerged enemies like the Destroyer? That would be difficult, wouldn't it?"
"You're right. It is indeed somewhat difficult, but S.H.I.E.L.D. was created precisely to overcome difficulties."
"Very good, Nick. When facing extraterrestrial visitors like the Destroyer, you must not let your guard down, especially since the Helicarriers suffered frequent malfunctions during construction, consuming enormous manpower and resources in endless repairs. It would be troublesome if something went wrong in battle."
"The frequently malfunctioning Helicarriers should not be repaired again. The money spent on repairs would be enough to build a new one."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. needs to design new Helicarriers to maintain its ability to handle Earth's anomalous incidents."
"Handle the old ones as soon as possible and recover the funds
