Background / History

Krypton and exile

He-El was a Kryptonian scientist and Jor-El’s former academy student and adoptive son. His life on Krypton included work with Jor-El, sparring with Zod, and associations with the House of El and Kara Zor-El. 1

Jor-El altered the course of the exploration vessel Dawn, leaving He-El adrift in cryosleep with little remaining energy. He-El later stated that he had deliberately maneuvered Jor-El into sending him away as part of his own plan to rise after Krypton’s destruction. 1 219

After awakening, He-El learned that Krypton had been destroyed. He returned to the Krypton Ruins, where the radiation nebula left by the planet’s explosion overwhelmed him with grief before he refocused on salvaging Kryptonian resources and rebuilding his ship. 54 55

Earth and the first conquests

In the Pacific Rim world, He-El arrived at Anchorage Base in a meteorite. Early examinations measured his body at 1,700 kilograms and estimated that he possessed at least 8,000 tons of strength; conventional weapons and surgical tools could not damage him. 7

He-El seized Alaska, the United States military, and ultimately Earth through his bio-magnetic field, military force, and Heat Vision. His campaign crushed unrest and crime on a massive scale, culminating in the destruction of the White House and the death of the U.S. president. 30

He used Earth’s scientists and resources to construct the Crystal Core Energy Aggregation Accelerator, intending to restore his capacity for interstellar travel and return to the remnants of Krypton. 44

Kandor and New Krypton

At the Krypton Ruins, He-El defeated an alien collector and obtained Kandor City, preserving millions of shrunken Kryptonians. He later used the AllSpark, genetic data, and his size-altering ability to restore 300,000 of his followers and former assistants. 107 1350

He exposed and purged corrupt Kryptonian leaders, appointed Kal-El-Zod to command military and law-enforcement forces, and announced a new era based on Ability users, genetic research, and conquest of the stars. 120

He-El developed Traversal Vortices and began sending clones of himself into other universes to study their operating logic. One thousand autonomous clones were created from his blood and psychic power for this purpose. 1304
