As Death's footsteps drew ever closer.
Spark's charred heart nearly burst apart.
Yet he lay limp amid the flames, unable to do anything.
He could only watch helplessly as a hazy figure and a chain blade wreathed in endless killing intent grew larger and larger in his vision.
Just when he thought death was certain.
A startled cry suddenly came from the grass not far away.
Then came the rustling of wild grass and the sound of someone breaking into a mad sprint.
It sounded as though another centaur warrior had been hiding nearby, holding his breath like Spark and trying to escape beneath the demon's blade.
But he seemed even less able to keep his nerve than Spark.
He even thought the demon's killing intent was aimed straight at him.
Terrified, he exposed himself and fled into the distance in blind panic.
Both demons let out a surprised "Huh?"
Spark immediately felt the pressure bearing down on him greatly diminish.
The tide of death was slowly receding.
Forcing his eyes open through the flames, he saw a red and a white bolt of lightning trailing winding afterimages as they shot into the distance at incredible speed.
Death temporarily lifted its enormous scythe from Spark's neck.
The young centaur warrior could not help letting out a groan, nearly weeping with joy.
From the outside, he still appeared to have a javelin through his heart, pinning him to the ground.
His body was also wrapped in blazing fire. Every part not covered by Totem Armor had been burned until his skin split and flesh tore; even the stark white bones inside had been scorched into black charcoal.
No wonder the two enemies thought he was surely dead and did not bother finishing him off.
But Spark had no intention of waiting
