Fang Qingyun was a chess prodigy in childhood, becoming unmatched in his prefecture by age eight. At sixteen, he became Sun Xiangzong's disciple and learned a sword technique regarded among the finest in the Divine Continent. Despite this martial training, he continued to seek the immortal path. 261

During the Longqing 50s, Fang Qingyun reached the Ends of the Earth and entered Tianshui Continent under an immortal's guidance. There, he discovered that he possessed a Heavenly Grade Spiritual Root, entered a superior immortal sect as a true disciple, and found a Dao companion. He returned to the Eastern Continent when Sun Xiangzong was ambushed and imprisoned in the capital; the full circumstances that later left Fang wheelchair-bound are not specified. 261

Near Liangzhou, he privately gives Chen an antidote for the Jade Blood Poison Dew, warning him to use it only if symptoms appear within two months. He also reveals that the Seven Absolute Sect is being retained as a possible elite-selection test. 115

Chen Sanshi's Apprenticeship
