Lin Xuan lowered his head and gazed at the longsword in his hand. It measured three feet and one inch long, its blade slender and graceful, light and agile. Clearly, it was a sharp sword better suited for a woman.
Although Three Feet Green Edge was no spiritual treasure, its material was fairly sturdy. If not for the swordsmith's exceptionally clumsy craftsmanship, it should have been capable of becoming a spiritual treasure.
Yet even such a sturdy sharp sword was now covered in numerous cracks.
The crack that began in the middle of the entire sword spine showed that the sword had not been damaged and shattered by external force.
The true cause of this sharp sword's destruction was the exceedingly faint pale-gray energy continuously seeping from its blade.
Qi of Death! That was a power only Death Profound Realm experts could wield. Even experts of the same realm feared it greatly; without Qi of Life protecting one's body, it would still be a tremendous problem.
Still gazing down at the sharp sword in his hand, Lin Xuan slowly raised his head and looked toward Song Dao, Yue Shan, and the other two standing in the mountain hollow. His eyes remained as calm as ever, without the slightest ripple. Not even the loss of life could stir his state of mind in the least.
"Are you ready?"
His icy voice was like moonlight scattered from the sky—illusory, untouchable, and chilling to the heart.
Moonlight?
Yue Shan, Han Zong, and the others suddenly changed expression. At that moment, Lin Xuan was nowhere to be seen before them. All that remained was a patch of brilliant moonlight.
Lin Xuan's sudden disappearance threw Song Dao, Yue Shan, and the other two into a panic. They looked around frantically, trying to find his location.
Above the mountain hollow, Liu Xuan Su stood to one side while holding Xia Zhilan's hand. Her eyes narrowed as she searched all around for Lin Xuan. Then Xia Zhilan suddenly tugged at her and whispered.
"Aunt Su, look at that moonlight. Something seems wrong with it!"
Liu Xuan Su raised her head at those words. The moonlight was astonishingly bright, seemingly far brighter than before.
Moreover, under Liu Xuan Su's watchful gaze, she discovered that the moonlight seemed to be growing brighter and brighter. Not only that, but a clear, frigid feeling was spreading across the land.
Xia Zhilan was not the only one to notice something strange about the bright moon. Yue Shan looked up at that radiant moonlight, and his pupils instantly contracted, for at some unknown point, a figure had appeared within it.
"Watch out!"
Yue Shan shouted a warning as he circulated his Origin Power, intending to defend against this sword strike. Song Dao and the other two beside him did the same after hearing his warning, joining forces with Yue Shan as they tried their hardest to block the attack.
A solitary moon hung high in the sky—cold, dazzling, ethereal, and transcendent!
Suddenly, a figure in white drifted down from that high-hanging lone moon. Like an immortal descending from the Ninth Heaven, he was graceful and otherworldly, unlike any person of this mortal realm.
"One Sword Comes From the West, Flying Immortal From Beyond the Heavens!"
The moonlight was cold, and the sword light frigid!
That dreamlike sword strike seemed to descend from the jade heavens beyond the Ninth Heaven, tracing a brilliant arc of sword light through the haze.
"Clang!"
A sword cry echoed between heaven and earth. The moonlight spilling down from the Ninth Heaven flashed abruptly, then transformed into a white-robed figure who appeared behind Yue Shan, Song Dao, and the others.
Within the mountain hollow, Yue Shan, Song Dao, and the other two were all poised to strike. Han Zong had even drawn a spiritual treasure, seemingly just about to attack. Yet now, all four stood frozen in place, utterly motionless.
The white-robed figure slowly straightened, then lowered his head to look at the sharp sword in his hand and could not help sighing softly, as though mourning something.
The next moment, Liu Xuan Su saw a cold wind rise. The sword she had worn at her waist in Lin Xuan's hand turned into countless flecks of ash, drifting slowly through the air with the wind.
As the longsword crumbled into ash and scattered away, Yue Shan, Song Dao, and the other two, who had been standing rigidly in place, also toppled headfirst to the ground. Yet strangely, not a drop of blood flowed from any of their bodies.
Lin Xuan turned around impassively, then raised a hand and drew over the short blade still clutched in Han Zong's hand.
Seeing Yue Shan, Song Dao, and the other two killed by Lin Xuan's single sword strike, Liu Xuan Su leaped down with Xia Zhilan into the mountain hollow. Xia Zhilan went straight to Xia Wanjin's side and supported the severely injured man.
Liu Xuan Su, meanwhile, took the initiative to approach Lin Xuan. Yet she did not dare get too close, stopping three feet away. When Lin Xuan turned to look at her, she softly said in gratitude.
"This young woman thanks you for saving our lives, sir!"
"No need. I did not act to save you."
Lin Xuan's calm voice rang out. He truly had not acted specifically to save Liu Xuan Su. It was merely that those people's killing intent had stirred the killing intent within him, bringing death upon themselves.
Otherwise, from such a distance, Lin Xuan would not have been able to notice Liu Xuan Su's identity. If he had saved anyone, it was only Xia Wanjin.
Lin Xuan had always disliked owing favors. During this trip to the Ancient Tomb Mansion, Myriad Gold Commerce had provided them with much information and saved them considerable trouble. Now that he had encountered them, he simply returned the favor in passing and considered the matter settled.
"Your sword is destroyed. Take this spiritual treasure as my compensation."
Held between two long, slender fingers, a short blade was extended before Liu Xuan Su. She clearly knew she should not accept it, but before Lin Xuan, she felt as though her hands no longer obeyed her as she accepted the low-grade spiritual treasure.
Lin Xuan withdrew his hand and lifted his eyes toward the direction from which he had come. Without saying anything further, his figure flashed, and he vanished from where he stood.
Looking at the empty space before her, Liu Xuan Su inexplicably felt relieved. Although Lin Xuan had shown them no ill intent earlier, standing beside him had made her feel as if the heavens were pressing down on her heart. Even her breathing became cautious, as though she feared offending him.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
At that moment, two sharp sounds of rushing wind came from nearby, followed by the appearance of Lin Dong and Lin Ke'er in the mountain hollow.
The moment Lin Dong appeared and saw the corpses scattered across the ground, his pupils could not help shrinking. Lin Ke'er beside him, however, seemed remarkably calm, as though she had long grown accustomed to such sights.
"Little Brother Lin Dong!"
Upon seeing Lin Dong, Liu Xuan Su could not help smiling as she called out to him.
