The wings of the Gray Poison Moth shimmered with a purple halo beneath the golden sun.
It stood now like a noble queen.
"My Gray Poison Moth is the strongest and most talented of all my pets. If it hadn't evolved into a Gray Poison Moth by accident, it might have already broken through to the Sixth Order by now."
"If only I could find an Evolution Path for the Gray Poison Moth."
Ye Bai didn't dare say it out loud—Zhang Lingxue's Gray Poison Moth could indeed still evolve.
But how would he explain how he knew? That would inevitably raise Zhang Lingxue's suspicions.
After all, a twenty-year-old professor with an IQ of at least 150, if not 160, couldn't be fooled by the Great Deception Technique.
Unless he had Naruto's Other Heaven Mouth.
For now, though, Ye Bai's strength was still weak. As a mere First Order Pet Beast Master, he couldn't even see the data of a Fifth Order Gray Poison Moth.
So for the moment, Ye Bai could only place his hopes on the Information System, to see if it might reveal something useful.
"Teacher, why are you here? Shouldn't you be at school? What are you doing running around outside?"
Ye Bai struck first with a counterblame.
Zhang Lingxue was so irritated by his words she laughed.
This kid had grown some nerve, daring to talk to his teacher like that.
But when she spotted Da Hui standing silently nearby, a sunflower perched on his head, Zhang Lingxue immediately understood Ye Bai's confidence.
He had two Third Order pets, so naturally he wouldn't fear First Order Burrowing Rats, and even Second Order Berserk Blood Rats could be dealt with easily.
According to the materials she'd read, Sunflowers were natural predators of Burrowing Rats—their steel-like roots could pierce straight through a Burrowing Rat's skull in an instant.
"Didn't I tell you to find a safe place to hide during the Beast Tide?" Zhang Lingxue crossed her arms and said with exasperation.
"Don't think those two Third Order pets behind you can protect you."
"Once a Beast Tide erupts, even I have to flee for my life."
At that moment, dozens of Second Order Berserk Blood Rats had silently surrounded Ye Bai and Zhang Lingxue.
Greed gleamed in their eyes. To these Berserk Blood Rats, the two humans were fat meat on a chopping block.
Especially the aura they gave off—the Berserk Blood Rats could sense that if they managed to hunt them down, they'd gain tremendous benefits.
"Where did these Berserk Blood Rats come from?"
Zhang Lingxue frowned.
"For Burrowing Rats to evolve into Berserk Blood Rats, they need a lot of flesh and blood. The nearby residents have all been evacuated."
"Could there still be people hiding?"
Ye Bai shook his head: "Teacher, have you forgotten the fat koi in the artificial lake at Central Park?"
"People have been feeding them until they're like pigs waiting for slaughter—each one weighs several hundred jin."
"One fat koi alone could help a Burrowing Rat evolve into a Berserk Blood Rat, let alone a whole group."
"By the way, teacher, has the Beast Tide been suppressed now?"
Ye Bai asked what he really wanted to know.
Zhang Lingxue's identity wasn't just that of a simple Sacred Mountain Middle School teacher. Ye Bai felt she must have another role, but he just didn't know it yet.
"The Beast Tide has been suppressed, but a few stray Burrowing Rats got away."
"You know the Burrowing Rat's traits—good at playing dead, good at digging holes."
"When the Beast Tide erupted, there were just too many Burrowing Rats. The Pet Beast Guild couldn't handle them all, so quite a few slipped through."
"And now there's a big problem."
Zhang Lingxue let out a long sigh. She hadn't planned to talk about this, but since Ye Bai wasn't an outsider, she told him what had happened at the Cold Storage Warehouse.
Frozen meat!
A smuggled frozen goods ship!
Ye Bai's heart skipped a beat. This really could trigger another Beast Tide.
"Right now, Wang Jinyin, the president of the Jiaying City Pet Beast Guild, has led a team to the Cold Storage Warehouse."
"Because we're short on hands, us Sacred Mountain Middle School teachers have also taken on part of the work to clean up the Burrowing Rats."
And then she ran into a student wandering around everywhere.
Did this kid have any idea how terrifying a Beast Tide was?
Even though this was only a Second Order Beast Tide, there was no guarantee that a high-order Strange Beast wouldn't show up.
Zhang Lingxue had been on the Beast Tide battlefield before. A Beast Tide was like a meat grinder—if a high-order Strange Beast led one, no number of Pet Beast Masters would be enough to fill the gap.
The Berserk Blood Rats watched the two of them chatting, feeling their dignity was being challenged.
The lead Berserk Blood Rat let out a sharp howl to the sky, and the others sprang into action.
They bared their claws and lunged at Ye Bai.
These Berserk Blood Rats were already a dark red in color, clearly having broken through some time ago.
A dark shadow charged over, sending the Berserk Blood Rats flying in all directions.
The rats splashed into the water one after another, like dumplings dropped into a pot.
Only then did Zhang Lingxue see that the dark shadow was Ye Bai's Thousand Changes Silkworm.
The silkworm's body gleamed silvery-white, and two thick streams of white vapor shot from its nostrils.
But the moment the once-proud Thousand Changes Silkworm caught Zhang Lingxue's probing, dissecting gaze, it instantly cowered.
It quickly hid behind Ye Bai, not daring to meet her eyes.
Ye Bai chuckled inwardly. This fearless Thousand Changes Silkworm turns into a mouse seeing a cat the moment it runs into Zhang Lingxue.
By then, the Berserk Blood Rats had crawled out of the artificial lake, their bodies shrouded in thick Blood Mist.
The mist was corrosive; the marble steps beneath their feet hissed and sizzled as the acidic vapor ate into them.
"Little Purple, finish them off."
The Gray Poison Moth flapped its wings, and purple powder shot from its bewitching wings.
When the powder landed on the Berserk Blood Rats, their eyes bulged wide as if they would pop out.
They clutched their throats tightly, tongues lolling out, and after a few mournful squeals, they collapsed to the ground, soon lifeless.
Their bodies corroded into bone at terrifying speed, revealing glistening Blood Cores.
The Thousand Changes Silkworm stared greedily at the Blood Cores, unable to hide the drool at the corner of its mouth.
"Does your Thousand Changes Silkworm need those Blood Cores?" Zhang Lingxue noticed the silkworm's expression and asked curiously.
Ye Bai nodded. "These Berserk Blood Rats' Blood Cores seem to enhance the Thousand Changes Silkworm's defense."
"And they also boost its recovery ability."
Hearing this, Zhang Lingxue said, "Then let the Thousand Changes Silkworm devour these Blood Cores."
"Ye Bai, the Thousand Changes Silkworm is a mutant of the Chameleon Silkworm—very valuable Research Data. You must carefully observe its Evolution Path."
"If it evolves into a Gray Poison Moth, you'll have lost out big time."
