Ch. 25The Wager

Eastern Emperor Taiyi wagered with Primordial Lord of Heaven and Sect Master Tongtian over the Nine Dragon Agarwood Carriage, then sent Bai Yu to fight Daoist Duobao. Duobao was wounded by Bai Yu’s seven Immortal Slaying Flying Daggers, and Bai Jin offered to help but worried that intervening would be improper.

  • Eastern Emperor Taiyi proposed that the carriage be lent to him if his Demon Court’s prodigy defeated a disciple of the Three Pure Ones, and Primordial Lord of Heaven and Sect Master Tongtian accepted the wager.
  • Daoist Duobao and Bai Yu, both Taiyi Golden Immortals, began their duel, and Duobao initially blasted Bai Yu back with a punch.

  • Bai Jin gave Holy Mother Wudang the Treasure Dropping Coin to pass to Daoist Duobao, and Duobao used it to collect Bai Yu’s seven Immortal Slaying Flying Daggers.

At Shangqing Palace, Tongtian discovered that Duobao’s misfortunes had begun after he used Bai Jin’s Treasure Dropping Coin and restored Duobao’s chaotic fortune. Duobao thanked his master, while the coin remained with Tongtian.

  • Bai Jin helped the injured Shi Ji leave, and Holy Mother Wudang teased him about how he had reacted when Duobao was hurt.
  • Duobao was buried by a falling rock, then suffered a series of mishaps on his way to Shangqing Palace and asked Tongtian to uphold justice for him.
  • Tongtian summoned Bai Jin, and Duobao thanked him for the Treasure Dropping Coin even as Bai Jin protested that he had only lent it.
  • Tongtian took the coin and explained that using it further could bring Duobao close to perishing, prompting Duobao to realize it had triggered his bad luck.
