A vast number of Moscow residents had gathered here because the execution of German pilots by shooting was to be carried out today.
In the center of Red Square stood over a hundred gallows, with a German pilot hanging from each one. They had all been pilots of German Air Force fighter planes shot down in the previous war. Most of them were Bomber pilots.
When the German Air Force carried out strategic bombing against Buru, its targets had all been deep within Russia's interior. This meant that once they were shot down, they had almost no chance of escape. Apart from those pilots who died on the spot, the rest had fallen into the hands of the Buru army.
After capturing these German pilots, the Buru NKVD interrogated them, hoping to extract something useful from their mouths, such as the performance specifications of German Air Force fighter planes.
In truth, aside from understanding the performance of their aircraft, these pilots did not know much else. But that was already extremely useful to the Russian Air Force. At the very least, they could gain a better understanding of the capabilities of German Air Force fighter planes and formulate better countermeasures. Once they possessed aircraft capable of matching German Air Force fighter planes, they would be able to fight them head-on.
Some pilots were exceptionally brave and loyal. Even after being captured by the Russians, they refused to reveal a single scrap of information. Their fates were undoubtedly miserable, as they were killed by the Buru NKVD in cruel ways. The remaining pilots were all brought to Red Square for a collective disposal. The purpose was nothing more than to further stir up the public and strengthen their confidence.
