A 105mm shell struck the Light Cruiser Kitakami. For a warship with a displacement of over six thousand tons, however, a single 105mm shell could not inflict much damage.
But the German fleet's Encirclement Offensive, with shells raining down without end, had driven the Island Nation officers and sailors aboard the Light Cruiser Kitakami nearly mad.
"Colonel, the Germans' blockade is too tight. We simply can't break through!" a staff officer reported.

If they could not break through the German fleet's blockade, they could only watch helplessly as the German fleet's Capital Ships formation withdrew safely. Worse still, under the ferocious assault of these German light cruisers and destroyers, they themselves were highly likely to be sunk. After all, the entire torpedo attack formation consisted of only two heavy torpedo cruisers and ten destroyers. The German fleet, on the other hand, had committed ten light cruisers and ten destroyers. The disparity in strength was plain for all to see.
"Order the torpedoes launched! Fire all torpedoes in a fan-shaped spread. Sink those German light cruisers and destroyers in one stroke, and let them taste our strength!" Colonel Masao Ueno ordered.
If they wanted to pursue the German fleet's Capital Ships formation, they had to break through the German fleet's blockade. With no other option, they could only launch an attack. If all went well, they might inflict grievous losses on the German light cruisers and destroyers blocking their path, allowing them to seize the chance to break through.
"Order the sailors to be ready. After the torpedoes are launched, they must reload them in the shortest possible time!" Colonel Masao Ueno ordered.
The ten quadruple torpedo launchers equipped on the Light Cruiser Kitakami gave her an exceedingly
