Attack!
Several US Dive Bombers launched an attack on the German military's aircraft carrier Hestia. The dive bombers intended to approach from high altitude, then dive down over the Hestia.
Unfortunately, they were blocked by the German military's anti-aircraft fire. One Dive Bomber was blasted into fragments on the spot. The other Dive Bombers were subjected to concentrated fire before they could even begin their dives. Even those that risked diving were immediately destroyed by the formidable anti-aircraft fire. Scattered aircraft debris rained down upon the sea.
Several Torpedo Bombers began descending, attempting to attack from the flank. However, the escorting warships of the Hestia had long since fixed their sights on them.
Dense anti-aircraft fire swept over them. One Torpedo Bomber after another was hit while descending, plunging headfirst into the sea before they could launch their torpedoes.
"God! Sir, it's very difficult for us to break through the Germans' dense anti-aircraft fire and attack their aircraft carriers," a US carrier-based aircraft squadron leader said despairingly. Their attack was nothing short of a march to their deaths. One carrier-based aircraft after another had become targets for the Germans' anti-aircraft fire.
The Commander of the US carrier-based aircraft also frowned. The German military's anti-aircraft fire was far more formidable than they had expected. Compared to it, American anti-aircraft fire was practically a joke.
