Manila, German military Pacific Theater Headquarters.
Field Marshal Manstein, Field Marshal Rundstedt, Field Marshal Bock, Field Marshal Keitel, Field Marshal Leeb, and the others had all gathered here.
Although the German military was launching a fierce offensive against the Island Nation's Mainland and progress had been fairly smooth, the Imperial Army's marshals all wore grim expressions.
"Your Excellency, I feel as though our forces have fallen into a mire. Not only do our troops have to deal with the enemy head-on, but they must also guard against attacks from other enemies on all sides. In particular, large numbers of Island Nation civilians have joined the attacks, causing our troops extremely heavy casualties," Field Marshal Bock said.
"Yes, Your Excellency. Those Island Nation people are no civilians at all—they are mobs. They attack our forces with every kind of weapon. There are military rifles, pistols, even grenades and explosive packs. Some even attack our troops with farm tools and kitchen cleavers. It is simply impossible to guard against them all!" Field Marshal Keitel added.
Field Marshal Manstein's expression was equally grim. Over this period, German military casualties on the frontal battlefield had amounted to only a little over twenty thousand. Yet more than thirty thousand German soldiers had been killed or wounded by Island Nation civilians. This had caused German military casualties to mount ever higher. Naturally, the Imperial Army's marshals could no longer sit still.
"Gentlemen, I believe we have run into a damn big problem this time. Those Island Nation people are even harder to deal with than we imagined! We originally thought that, no matter how hostile those Island Nation civilians were toward us, they would still be terrified under the deterrence of our military might. But now it seems they simply do not fear death at all!
