Baron Charles Hardinge's words made everyone's expressions change drastically. As the leaders of India's largest parties, whatever their aims or selfish desires might have been, they still hoped to see India grow better and better. Germany was about to invade India, something none of them wished to see.
"The authorities are preparing to arm more troops to defend India. We hope that more HMS Indomitable can join them. The Indian National Congress and the Green Party Alliance are India's largest parties. I hope you can use your influence to get the people to enlist in the army, rather than having them resist us and oppose us. If we are defeated by the Germans, it will benefit no one!" Baron Charles Hardinge urged earnestly.
"Your Excellency, we do not wish for war to break out. Once we go to war with the German military, our people will suffer terrible casualties!" Gandhi said with a frown.
"Mr. Gandhi, we do not wish for war either. But there is no helping it—Germany will not agree. This is not a war we wanted to start. There is only one way to preserve India: withstand the German attack," Baron Charles Hardinge said.
"But the Germans are too powerful! We cannot possibly defeat them." Jinnah shook his head. The Green Party Alliance was the party second only to the Indian National Congress. Jinnah's stance was equally important. Yet Jinnah clearly did not believe they had the strength to confront the world's number one power.
"Gentlemen, I know you are all well aware of how powerful Germany is. I do not deny that. Indeed, Germany is even more powerful than the British Empire once was. Otherwise, the British Empire would not have been defeated by them. But if Germany's strength makes us too afraid to oppose them,
