"Your Excellency the Foreign Minister, does your country truly agree to divide those territories among us?" Mir Osman Ali Khan struggled to control his emotions, but the excitement in his heart remained impossible to suppress. He felt as though an enormous pie had fallen from the sky and struck him squarely, leaving him so excited he was nearly fainting.
Originally, Mir Osman Ali Khan had secretly traveled to Germany for only one purpose: to ensure the interests of Princely Rulers like himself would still be protected after Germany occupied all of India. To that end, they were willing to submit to Germany. Mir Osman Ali Khan had even believed they would have to pay no small price to achieve this goal. After all, they had previously submitted to the British, and Britain and Germany were sworn enemies. Now that Germany had won the war, people like them who had submitted to Britain would inevitably face Germany's reckoning.
Yet Mir Osman Ali Khan had never expected the Germans to be so easy to talk to. They had readily agreed to their request and even guaranteed that they would not harm the interests of Princely Rulers like them. It made Mir Osman Ali Khan wonder whether any of this was real. If the German military had not already gained an absolute advantage on the Indian battlefield and been on the verge of final victory, he would certainly have believed there was some conspiracy behind it.
What Mir Osman Ali Khan had not expected now was that Germany's plan for dealing with India was actually to divide India's territories among these Princely Rulers. Those were the fertile lands of the Ganges River basin and the coastal regions! Compared with the territories of most Princely Rulers, those lands were far more fertile and prosperous.
