In April 1910, Oscar submitted the designs for the Next-class Battleship and Battlecruiser to the German Navy: the Kaiser-class Battleship and Derfflinger-class Battlecruiser.
The experts of the Naval Ministry and the Naval Technical Committee reviewed the designs for these two classes of Capital Ships. Although their exorbitant cost sparked some controversy over their construction, Grand Admiral Count Tirpitz held firm, allowing the designs for both classes to pass. Wilhelm II also respected Oscar's opinion and raised no objection.
At the end of April, construction began in succession on the Kaiser-class Battleships and Derfflinger-class Battlecruisers.
The Kaiser-class Battleships were even larger, with a displacement of 37,000 tons. They were equipped with three triple-mounted 50-caliber 380mm Main Guns, the largest-caliber naval guns ever fitted on a German warship—or indeed any warship in the world. Of course, Capital Ships would later be equipped with even larger-caliber guns. In terms of protection, the main armor of the Kaiser-class Battleships was also 380mm thick, greatly enhancing their defensive strength. Compared with the Kaiser-class Battleships of another timeline, they had undergone earth-shaking changes. Their top speed had not fallen because of their increased displacement either. By adopting more powerful oil-fired boilers and Steam Turbines, the Kaiser-class Battleships could still maintain a maximum speed of over 23 knots.
After Wilhelm II approved the plan, five Kaiser-class Battleships were slated for construction: the lead ship König, the second ship Kurfürst Friedrich Wilhelm, the third ship Brandenburg, the fourth ship ****, and the fifth ship Empress Victoria.
The Derfflinger-class Battlecruisers were likewise unrecognizable compared with those of another timeline. Aside from sharing the same name, almost everything else was completely different.
