This new blog post from Math and Physics Events kept soaring in popularity after making the trending list.
Before long, with tens of thousands of likes, reposts, and comments, it squeezed into the top ten trending topics. Nearly everyone who checked Weibo's trending list that evening was drawn in by it.
The most-liked comment read: "No need to say more. I'll smoke one with you. As a PhD student from a QS top-ten mathematics school, my feelings are extremely complicated right now."
Replies beneath it also came from graduate students at all kinds of world-class mathematics institutions, all posting their own versions of "I'll smoke one with you."
There were people from Princeton, UC Berkeley, Cambridge, and more.
No matter which prestigious school they came from, when faced with the achievement of a seventeen-year-old minor writing a paper like this, all they could do was sigh deeply. The gap between people could sometimes really be bigger than the gap between people and dogs.
Fortunately, most people who studied mathematics eventually became pretty zen about it. So although they had suffered a crushing blow, it was not really a big problem.
After all, even if people who entered top schools to study mathematics initially felt exceptional, once they encountered more and more problems they could not solve during their research, they naturally became zen.
So it did not lead to these math geniuses becoming too afraid to look at mathematics ever again.
Besides the math geniuses, even more of the comments came from ordinary netizens who were just there for the spectacle. Even if they did not understand what "Non-singular Analytic and the Absolute Remote Abelian Conjecture" meant, or what IHES was, the phrase "top international mathematics journal" alone was enough to make them cry out in amazement.
What, what, what?
