After sending Shen Dan to the Public Mortuary outside the city to transport the corpse, Sun Shaozong did not remain idle himself. He immediately took men with him and escorted Butcher Hu back to his home.
Once there, they first inspected the iron tools in his house, then went to the spot behind it where the body had been buried and conducted a meticulous search.
The result, however, could only be described as utterly unremarkable.
After all, five or six days had already passed. The yamen runners had not properly secured the scene, and who knew how many sightseers had come through that burial site? It would have been stranger if they had found any clues!
As for the hoes and Iron Shovels, while there were no visible signs that they had been used, Sun Shaozong could not be sure whether such poor-quality iron might have developed fresh rust within a week.
Thus, he could only escort Butcher Hu back in frustration.
Returning to the inner hall of Daxing County Yamen, he saw, the moment he entered, a bedboard laid out in the middle of the room. Though it was tightly covered by a white sheet, a faint stench of decay still seeped from beneath it.
Without another word, Sun Shaozong strode forward and yanked the sheet away in one sweep. Scattered beneath were body parts lying every which way, with already-rotting internal organs strewn in a chaotic mess atop them. The sight was horrifying beyond measure!
For a moment, the inner hall rang with sharp intakes of breath, followed at once by retching induced by the corpse's stench.
"If you need to vomit, go outside."
Sun Shaozong gave the order flatly, his gaze settling first on the severed head placed at the center. Most of the hair bun had
