Five minutes later, figures appeared in the sewers one after another, closing in from every direction. The splashing of their boots through the filthy water made the area, which had just fallen silent, lively once more.
Most of them wore well-tailored military uniforms, while a few wore black trench coats and moved with agile steps. The man leading them carried a Pure White Bone Sword. His features were resolute but exhausted. He was Crestet Cesimir, the "Sword of the Goddess." He had not even had time to change out of his tattered trench coat and simply draped it over himself. His face was still somewhat pale, and he had recovered little of his strength.
But he knew that Lanevus, who had escaped from the Guild Dormitory, could only be in worse condition.
The trackers rushing in from all directions soon discovered the previous battlefield. Several Nighthawks Red Gloves with Dark Vision quickly stepped forward and surrounded the corpse lying on its back in the sewage.
Leaning on the Bone Sword, Cesimir crouched down and reached out to check Lanevus's vital signs. A Nighthawk retrieved the severed half of an arm with Dark Vision. Cesimir took it and held it against Lanevus's left arm, which had been severed at the elbow. It fit perfectly.
"Looks like someone carried out a massacre."
A Loen soldier carrying an oil lamp approached to inspect the body. He had been waiting on the perimeter to prevent any incident that might require evacuating civilians, so he did not know the details of the battle. Seeing Lanevus's miserable state, he even looked sympathetic.
The Nighthawks, however, did not care. As the culprit behind the Tingen Tragedy, they did not mind how ugly Lanevus's death had been. They were merely curious about who had killed this fleeing Beyonder
