"We worship the moon, not the Evernight Goddess."
In her study, Angel dipped her pen in ink and copied down the first sentence of the Secret Book, then frowned.
The book's author, Shaman King Klarman, had been a High Sequence Beyonder active in the Southern Continent during the early Fifth Epoch, over a thousand years ago. He had recorded a great deal of knowledge concerning Mystic Rituals, astrology, and curse spells, but he had also explicitly stated that these rituals and spells all originated from worship of the Primordial Moon.
The book even contained this Honorific Name for the "Primordial Moon":
Unique Red Moon,
Symbol of Life and Beauty,
Mother of All Spiritual Power.
Worried that such a clear three-line Honorific Name pointed to some mysterious existence, Angel did not dare copy down this description directly and merely committed it to memory.
She only had one week to borrow the Secret Book. She clearly did not have enough time to fully absorb its contents, so she could only copy down the important parts first and study them gradually later.
Although the book was not filled, as she had imagined, with powerful spells and mysterious rituals that could immediately increase her combat ability, this knowledge still filled Angel—whose understanding of mysticism was only superficial—with delight.
She had only been a Nighthawk for two months. Though she had learned quite a bit from the Church's internal texts, she was still far from proficient, while Cole Granger was half a mysticism illiterate himself. The mystical knowledge in this book was extremely useful to her.
As she copied it, Angel gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between the Spirit World and her own Beyonder Abilities, as well as the construction and purpose of various rituals. She even wanted to try using this knowledge
