Tamara's Ever-changing Card was a Sealed Artifact formed when the Beyonder Characteristic left behind by a deceased Sequence 2 Planeswalker of the Apprentice Pathway fused with a diamond-studded card they had loved to toy with in life.
The card could float in the air on its own, keeping one face aimed at an external enemy. Various people, scenes, and events constantly shifted across that face, much like the "random events" in certain tabletop games.
The events appearing on its front would affect the enemy closest to it.
Conversely, the longer Tamara's Ever-changing Card floated freely in the air, the more the normally safe design on its back would change, producing different effects that acted on the holder themselves.
In addition, the Ever-changing Card allowed its holder to "flash" past most seals and barriers, and bestowed Secret Keeping upon itself and its holder to counter divination and prophecy.
That was precisely why its holder, the Orange Witch Talia, had been chosen to infiltrate Partis, the Dream City, and ambush Helene during her advancement.
Sensing that some fatal scene had appeared on the card's front, Talia willed it to turn slightly, aiming it directly at Helene, who still held the posture of someone drinking a potion, so the manifested scene would take effect on her.
A second later, pitch-black fissures appeared across Helene's body, their interiors seemingly leading into an abyss. Wounds covered her, and her neck was severed in two. Her head, trailing long red hair, rolled silently to the floor.
But Talia felt no joy at completing her mission. Instead, she instinctively rolled aside, taking the floating Ever-changing Card with her.
Black flames surged out of thin air where she had just stood, followed by sharp ice spikes erupting from the floor.
