The newspaper club had been around for a long time, and Chloe's computer was connected to the school intranet.
The girl moved the mouse and tapped the keyboard. Soon, a large portrait of Jeremy popped up on her desktop.
"Name: Jeremy Kri."
"Twelve years ago, he was a high school student with excellent grades. However, after falling into a coma during a wilderness disaster, he received funding from LuthorCorp for twelve years."
Chloe scrolled the wheel, glancing at Jino from the corner of her eye.
She hadn't expected this guy to have ties to the Luthor Family as well.
"So, why are you asking about this guy?" Pete asked curiously.
"I have some personal matters to settle with him. He woke up not long ago, then disappeared." Jino smiled faintly before instructing Chloe, "Please help me look up the members of the football team from Jeremy's class."
As Chloe clicked the mouse, a photo of three burly men in football uniforms soon appeared before Jino.
"These three are David, Kendall, and Lance."
"They were the key players on that year's football team."
"And these guys happened to pick Jeremy as their scarecrow back then." Pete lowered his voice mysteriously. "My mom's sister's ex-boyfriend's nephew was in Jeremy's class. That guy was quiet and reserved, and he was often bullied."
"Is that so?" Jino pinched his chin and stared at the computer with a dark expression. "Thank you for your help. I have something to take care of, so I'll be leaving first."
Having obtained the information he wanted, Jino did not linger. He tossed his sports car keys to Chloe and Pete, then joked with a smile, "This is your 'payment.' You can drive it home after school and bring it back to school tomorrow."
He was never stingy with rewards when asking people for help. But since they were high school classmates, Jino could not simply throw money at them. That would change the nature of things.
"Boss, you're generous!" Pete raised his brows. It was a sports car—most ordinary people would never even get to touch one in their lives.
As for wounded pride?
Come on, showing off to relatives and friends in a sports car was cool. That way, everyone would know you had a friend who drove one.
Besides, Pete and Chloe were not that sensitive, introverted, or fragile.
"See you tomorrow." Jino waved goodbye to the two and pushed open the door to leave.
After Jino left,
Chloe and Pete looked at the sports car keys on the table, exchanged a glance, then both reached out with their "claws" toward them.
"It's mine!"
Ignoring the commotion inside over the keys, Jino took out his phone after leaving the office and called the chief of the town police department.
"Hello?"
"Chief George, it's me, Jino Luthor. I'd like to ask you about a few people." Jino's tone was calm.
The moment Chief George heard the name Luthor, he immediately lowered his voice and said respectfully, "Sir, please give your instructions."
"I need to ask you about a few people."
In free America, power existed to serve money.
Late at night, Smallville was quiet and peaceful.
The weather here was slightly chilly at night.
A full moon hung high in the sky, its clean, gentle light spilling over the streets. Inside an auto repair shop on a quiet street,
a music player was blasting an intense rock song.
A young man named David bobbed his head to the beat while waving a wrench in his hand, tapping and checking the performance of the SUV in front of him.
"Good girl." David returned to the driver's seat and turned the key. Watching the engine roar to life, a proud smile appeared on his face. He was going to make good money from this job.
Bang!
The man shut the hood. At some point, a figure had appeared in a corner not far away.
Moonlight fell at his feet, leaving the young man's face flickering between light and shadow.
"Hey, this is private property. Do you need your car repaired?" The middle-aged man frowned and instinctively tightened his grip on the wrench.
"David Sken, former football team captain, campus star, the object of girls' affection—and now you've ended up as a pathetic mechanic?" A slightly hoarse young voice echoed through the workshop.
The boy's words instantly ignited David's anger. "Fuck off and get out of here!"
He tightened his grip on the wrench and strode toward the figure.
As the distance between them closed, the indistinct face gradually became clear.
A thin frame, sunken cheeks, and a cheap white hoodie.
But what alarmed David most was the cold, eerie look in that person's eyes.
"Wait." David stared at the young man, feeling that the more he looked, the more familiar he seemed.
"I think I know you!"
"You're Jeremy, that scarecrow!"
David stared at Jeremy, contempt surfacing on his face. He swept his gaze over the young man's clothes. "How do you have the nerve to mock me? You don't look rich either."
Hearing the man's words, a trace of amusement flashed through Jeremy's eyes. "No, no, no. We're different."
He spread his hands. "I can mock you because I naturally have the right and the strength to do so."
As soon as he finished speaking, Jeremy's hands abruptly lit up with a scorching blue glow. On closer inspection, they were actually streams of violent electricity leaping and flashing across his skin.
Smack!
Before the middle-aged man could react, Jeremy suddenly seized him by the throat.
Sizzle!
The instant their skin touched, violent currents surged into the man's body, invading every blood vessel and savagely destroying his tissues!
"Ahhhh~" The man trembled all over as electricity coursed through him, his eyes rolling white as he reenacted Wu Jing's iconic electrocution scene. A thick burnt stench rose from his body.
"Hehehe." Jeremy watched the man struggle in agony, a sickly smile appearing on his face.
"That's right, just like this. The strong are supposed to humiliate the weak. Isn't that what you taught me?"
"Die already!" Jeremy shouted as he continuously increased the current in his hands.
"Ah!" The man let out a shrill scream. The surrounding electrical appliances burst into showers of sparks under the current.
Crackle!
Amid sparks and lightning, Jeremy closed his eyes in enjoyment. "That's right, just like this. Your screams are the lullaby that sends me to sleep."
Whoosh!
Before Jeremy could finish enjoying David's torment, a howling gust sounded beside his ear, and pain exploded across his cheek.
Bang!
A fist struck the man's face without warning.
Boom!
The air exploded with a sonic boom.
The next second, the young man flew away like a baseball, his body smashing into a scrapped car in the workshop. The tremendous force embedded him in its door.
"My face!"
Lying atop the car, Jeremy howled as he clutched his cheek. That punch had not only sent him flying, but also knocked out several teeth from the right side of his face. Bright red blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, leaving him in a miserable state.
"Who is it?!" Jeremy glared venomously at the shadow in the corner.
Clap, clap, clap~
A tall figure emerged from the darkness while lightly applauding. The moonlight drove away the shadows, revealing a handsome face—but his attractive features carried a look of contempt.
"You said it perfectly, Jeremy." The Blonde Young Man rubbed his fist and rolled his neck, staring at the young man in the corner. "The strong should humiliate the weak."
Jino paused. The smile vanished from his face as he said expressionlessly,
"So, are you ready?"
