Enormous coffins stood scattered throughout the gloomy, dim tomb.
"Whoosh!"
A grappling line dropped from above. Then Batman flared his Bat-Cape and descended with a howl, landing on the dark earth.
"This is the Place of Origin."
Batman narrowed his eyes at the murals etched throughout the tomb. They recorded the ancient tale of the Bird Tribe plundering the Bat Tribe.
"But where is the clue?"
Batman scanned his surroundings, but suddenly, an inexplicable sense of danger made his scalp tingle.
Without the slightest hesitation, Batman rolled across the ground.
As he twisted away, several cold-glinting daggers skimmed past the armor on his back, piercing the mud walls with tremendous force.
Batman turned his head and saw the owl patterns carved into the dagger hilts.
"Hehehe."
Before Batman could react, a cold, cruel laugh echoed from the dark passageway.
"We have waited so long."
Batman narrowed his eyes toward the darkness.
His black goggles allowed him to see through it with ease.
He saw several figures emerge slowly from the shadows, clad in black robes, wearing savage, twisted skull masks, and carrying bat-shaped staffs.
Their exposed arms were deathly pale.
The leader spoke in a hoarse, low voice.
"Ever since we set our sights on you, it has been so long, great woman. Our ancient priests have served at the side of Barbatos, the god of darkness, in your name."
"We Owls have waited for so long, all for the arrival of this day. The Curtain is ready."
"Now it descends upon us."
As he listened to the priests, Batman quietly moved a hand toward his belt and put on a puzzled expression. "How did you plan all this?"
Sure enough, just like every villain seemed to possess an inexplicable urge to share.
The leading priest smiled
