The pitch-black night was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Ravens roosting in the woods on both sides of the highway let out mournful cries from time to time, making the atmosphere even more terrifying.
A beam of headlights cut through the darkness.
Vrooom!
A red SUV roared down the road, startling countless ravens into harsh caws.
Whoosh!
Before the poor ravens could recover, another enormous black shadow swept past. Sensing danger, they flapped their wings and scattered in all directions.
Inside the SUV, the howling wind rushed past on either side. Chloe could only shout at Pete at the top of her lungs, "Call Jino! Clark doesn't have time to answer!"
The girl knew perfectly well that whenever Clark encountered Lana Lang, his IQ dropped off a cliff.
And time was precious. Between Clark and Jino, Chloe chose Jino without hesitation.
Her past experiences had told her that Jino was more reliable. After all, he seemed never to have had a girl he liked, so there was no way he would get distracted by a woman and ignore his phone.
Pete's trembling fingers finally found Jino's number. As he dialed, he caught sight of the forest behind them from the corner of his eye, where a flock of ravens was scattering in panic.
"That thing is still following us." Despair filled Pete's face. He lowered the phone, trembling as he pulled out paper and a pen from the SUV's glove compartment.
Chloe pursed her lips. While accelerating the SUV, she looked curiously at Pete. "What are you doing?"
"W-writing a will." Pete sniffled and asked Chloe, "Want me to write one for you too?"
