District 21 of Thorn Capital was the most unusual district in the entire Royal Capital. It had the smallest population, yet was also the liveliest area in the Royal Capital. More Mail Carriers lived here than anywhere else; 95% of the Kingdom of Lordaeron's Mail Carriers came from District 21 of the Royal Capital.
It was a remarkable profession.
In the Kingdom of Lordaeron, every letter became entangled in a curse the moment it came into existence, constantly attracting creatures from the darkness. This meant that the longer someone held on to an unopened letter, the more likely they were to encounter danger.
Yet letters sealed with Sealing Wax were one of the most important means of communication.
For one simple reason: in this world, lies could be put on paper, but could not exist in a letter.
If the words written in a letter now became lies one day in the future, those words and sentences that had become lies would scatter on the wind.
Delivering love or secrets, mailing vows or loyalty-as long as lies existed in the world, Mail Carriers and letters would never disappear from the Kingdom of Lordaeron.
Writing a letter—sealing it with Sealing Wax—having a Mail Carrier travel a long distance to deliver it: this was the complete process of a letter's birth.
Hiring a Mail Carrier to deliver a letter was expensive. Not a single Mail Carrier lacked money.
But no one would become a Mail Carrier if they had another way out, unless their ancestors had been Mail Carriers too, and they were used to living with no guarantee of tomorrow, used to always being on the road, used to carrying letters between shadows and death.
Xunge was the descendant of a Mail Carrier.
