"Mr. Lothar is back!"
A young wolf warrior suddenly shouted excitedly, "Everyone, look! That's Mr. Lothar!"
Before they could say much more, the Texas border troops escorting the refugees to safety came galloping over on their mounts.
Their faces were filled with reverence. "Mr. Lothar, it's an honor to see you again. I heard about what happened on the Florida coast. Madam Jeanne said that was your doing?"
Lothar readily admitted it, immediately drawing cheers from the crowd.
"That's incredible!"
"What worried me most before were the English airships. They say those things can fly above the clouds and drop bombs on our heads. Even if we set our cannons up on mountaintops, we still couldn't reach them."
The wolf clan was not the Blood Court. They could not field a whole host of construct beasts as guards, nor could they fly themselves or use all manner of magic to defend against aerial attacks.
In this era, air defense was inherently weak, and many countries did not even possess the concept of air defense.
Even if Chieftain Giuliano claimed they would hole up in the mountain city and use the threat of detonating the white crystal veins to prevent the enemy from using heavy weapons, that was merely a gamble that placed their fate in the enemy's hands.
They all knew the white crystal veins were not so easily detonated. The English, who frequently used the explosive substance known as white crystal, were certainly far more knowledgeable in that regard.
They would most likely be able to strike New Basilicata with aerial bombardment while still keeping the damage from reaching the white crystal veins.
They simply would not use high-powered artillery. Small-scale bombardments, however, were unavoidable.
"Come, everyone! This is Mr. Lothar, the man who helped us so much!"
