The oppressive heat still hung over the streets, seeming to thin out the number of pedestrians.
But no matter how few there were, this was still a main street rather than an empty alley, and the flow of people around them remained fairly considerable.
It was just that these people would occasionally glance in one direction.
In that direction, Fang Li and Index were walking together.
More accurately, Fang Li was walking in front while Index followed behind, the two proceeding one after the other and drawing the attention of those around them.
"Hey, hey."
Index stuck close behind Fang Li as though she were jogging, asking curiously.
"Why is everyone around us looking at us?"
The voice from behind did not make Fang Li slow down, but he answered nonetheless.
"They're not looking at us. They're looking at you." Without turning his head, Fang Li said, "This is Academy City, after all—the representative of the Science Side, famous for possessing the most advanced technological capabilities. "So that's how it is." Index spoke as though she had suddenly understood. "No wonder people kept looking at me after I came to this city."
In truth, aside from her outfit, Index herself was quite eye-catching as well.
Her smooth, waist-length silver hair reflected the sunlight from above.
Her emerald eyes were filled with innocent wonder.
Her still-immature face was as lovely as that of a cute doll.
Combined with the fact that she was obviously foreign and dressed as a nun, it would have been impossible for Index not to attract the attention of passersby.
Of course, if Fang Li had not rushed into a nearby clothing store
