"Rumble—rumble—"
Smoke from the explosion billowed up before their eyes, spreading upward like a mushroom-shaped canopy unfurling.
"Crack—crack!"
White rubble scattered through the air and fell in every direction. Cracks rapidly spread from the center of the explosion alongside the thunderous blast, and before long, they covered the bridge stretching all the way to the edge of their vision.
"Boom!"
Amid a collapse no less deafening than the explosion itself, the grand, massive bridge suddenly gave way. Shattered stones tumbled in all directions into the deep ravine below, the crashing roar filling their ears and nearly drowning out even the thunder.
It was over, finally...
The spectacular collapse reflected in Minato Namikaze's eyes. The ground trembled, and the numbness caused by the vibrations beneath his feet traveled up through his body, yet his heart finally let out a long breath of relief.
Then he turned and looked at his two disciples, who were still slightly stunned.
Really...
Was it over just like that? Kakashi stared wide-eyed at the billowing smoke and flying rubble of the collapse. The strange feeling in his heart overwhelmed even the numbness from the tremors, leaving him somewhat dazed. In his right eye, marked by two tomoe, the trajectory of every falling stone was perfectly clear. Everything was safe, yet the feeling that countless enemies would rush out the very next second continued to linger in his heart, making it hard for him to believe the situation before him.
Was it over?
Rin, whom he had shielded behind him, wore much the same disbelieving expression. As she watched everything before her, relief filled her heart, but so did confusion and surprise.
Just like that, it was gone?
In the end, as the bridge collapsed, the thoughts in their minds were astonishingly in sync.
