"So, are we just staying here and waiting?"
Watching Chiba leave, Hirohiko looked at Kakashi and could not help asking.
"Yeah... pretty boring, isn't it?"
Kakashi nodded at that and answered honestly, adding a sigh of reflection.
At that moment, the two sat side by side atop the log table that had originally been used as a table, staring at the now completely empty log fence and the open ground within it. They looked especially idle, rather like they were just staring blankly at each other.
"Chiba's registration process doesn't seem to have much meaning, does it?"
Then, after saying that, Kakashi frowned and added another remark.
"Yeah, if someone has already infiltrated us, then this registration really is meaningless. But when he came earlier, he instructed me to use the Sharingan to examine those three hundred people. If someone really has slipped in, I should be able to spot something. Still, my Sharingan isn't Yukina's Byakugan, so there's only so much I can see."
Hirohiko did not hide anything and answered truthfully.
Kakashi's words clearly took into account the possibility that spies had infiltrated before the registration began, which was why he said that. Hirohiko understood what Kakashi meant.
And with that possibility involved, whether spies had infiltrated beforehand or not, this measure was actually meaningless.
Because if spies had infiltrated in advance, then when Chiba conducted the registration, he would have revealed things like the code words to them. They still would have no way of discovering who the spies were, or whether spies had infiltrated at all.
And even if no spies had infiltrated beforehand, from their perspective, the purpose of this registration was to determine whether there were spies among the group, using something akin to a code-word test. If there was any chance those code
