"Doctor Watanabe, when Kakashi comes back later, could you give us some time alone?"
By evening, Chiba, who had idled away the entire afternoon, slowly opened his eyes. After rubbing away his drowsiness, he suddenly spoke to Doctor Watanabe, who was still reading a medical book beside him.
"Oh, all right."
Hearing this, Doctor Watanabe, absorbed in his reading, first froze for a moment before nodding.
Is that so?
So there were things I couldn't be allowed to know.
Come to think of it, what secretive business were these two children planning to get up to again? As he spoke, Doctor Watanabe found himself entertaining this rather curious thought.
Still, though he was curious, he had no intention of finding out what the two wanted to do. He understood that much. These two children, far younger than himself, were the village's only two super-geniuses. And their brilliance was not limited to combat fields like ninjutsu; they could be called all-around geniuses. They bore the responsibility for the village expansion plan, as well as the largest village-wide initiative established by the new Hokage. Their responsibilities were immense, and the matters involved were extensive. Some things simply could not be openly discussed.
Though Doctor Watanabe was merely a doctor, and an ordinary person at that, he still knew what he ought to know.
He also understood that it was fine to be curious about things he was allowed to know, but for things he was not allowed to know, he should not even be curious.
"Thank you."
Chiba spoke sincerely.
I never expected Doctor Watanabe to be such a sensible person. I thought he was the type obsessed with academics, with a bit of that bookish dullness, but it seems I underestimated him.
As he spoke, Chiba felt rather moved.
Today was
