Did his body move before his mind did?
Watching his right hand, which was about to touch the Light Orb, Chiba slowly furrowed his brow. After his initial shock, he understood what had happened.
Although he had not intended to touch the Light Orb now, after merging with the memories of his other self and learning what the Sage of Six Paths before him represented, his body had instinctively tried to avoid this person.
Even though he had been wary, that wariness had been within tolerable limits.
This showed just how enormous the impact of learning what the Sage of Six Paths before him represented had been.
"No, I've only just merged with them. I'm still a little unaccustomed to it."
After realizing his lapse, Chiba slowly withdrew his hand and spoke.
Although he now completely understood the purpose of this Light Orb, and its function had been imprinted in his mind in a way he could understand during that fleeting glimpse from the merge, he also knew that it would do him no harm. Even touching it would not be a problem. But right now, he had no such intention.
As for the Light Orb's purpose, the information imprinted in his mind was enough to prove its usability.
Chiba even knew that as long as he placed his hand on the Light Orb, he could accomplish many utterly unimaginable things.
Just like his other self had done—he could separate the soul of the original Taki Chiba, the true son of Taki Shinya and his wife Sarutobi Komachi, then replace it with his own. He could even open the gates of the Pure Land and send the two souls inside, allowing them to reunite with Taki Shinya.
It could be said that this Light Orb was capable of godlike feats.
