What was this? At the words casually spoken to him by the young man who looked exactly like him, Chiba froze for a moment, his brows already knitting tightly.
By now, he had begun to suspect whether this space was a trap set by the Sage of Six Paths or the World Will, or some other unknown. This unprompted remark from the young man left him unsure of what to say.
It felt somewhat like the man was talking to himself, but also like he had placed their relationship into one where they already trusted each other. There were many implications behind that.
One possibility was that this young man who looked exactly like him was simply naturally familiar with people, or perhaps he had some duty here for some reason, and since that was his only duty, he automatically assumed that anyone who entered knew of his existence and role.
Another possibility was that the young man had deliberately said this to give Chiba a psychological suggestion. Combined with the young man's identical appearance and Chiba's previous experience of encountering another self, the three factors together could lead Chiba by the nose without him noticing, making him instinctively stop questioning the young man's identity.
The former was unintentional. The latter basically meant there was something deeper hidden within this space.
And something detrimental to Chiba.
For example, perhaps this really was a space created by the Sage of Six Paths or the World Will to deceive him.
Of course, it might not even be a space. It could also be something like an illusion technique.
