"What is it?"
Noticing that his students had suddenly fallen silent, Kakashi blinked behind his glasses and instinctively looked at them. But they merely stood there in silence, each seemingly lost in their own thoughts and hesitating as if they had realized something but did not know how to say it. So he asked.
Hearing their teacher's question, the three exchanged looks. After looking at one another, the hesitation on their faces only deepened. For a while, none of them spoke.
What was going on?
This was not the reaction they should have had. Seeing this, Kakashi blinked, somewhat puzzled.
Normally, based on what he knew about his students, they should have become restless after hearing this. Naruto, for instance, should have already been loudly demanding answers and trying to get to the bottom of it. He would also have started entertaining a few little ideas of his own.
Even Sasuke, who was usually so calm, might have found it hard to sit still.
As for Sakura, even if she said nothing aloud, she should have been having some ideas of her own as well.
By the usual course of events, they should have been in an uproar by now. And in the end, Naruto and Sasuke, who both had a competitive streak, ought to have started arguing.
Though that argument would probably have just been Naruto shouting one-sidedly.
From Kakashi's observations, when it came to arguing, Sasuke was likely too lazy to raise his voice at Naruto. So on the surface, Naruto would have held an absolute advantage.
As for who truly had the upper hand, Kakashi reserved judgment.
But this hesitant, half-spoken situation was absolutely not something that should have happened now, nor something his students should have displayed at this moment.
Could I have explained something incorrectly?
