On the veranda of the Japanese-style wooden house, Chiba took a light sip from his teacup, slowly raised his head, and gazed at the twilight ahead with a somewhat dazed sigh.
At the end of his gaze were the receding backs of all the children who attended his lessons, with the occasional chatter unique to children drifting over.
By now, a month had passed since the two members of Team 8 had received their special training assignments.
Over the past month, Chiba had been gratified to discover that these children truly had no intention of troubling him at all.
Ever since they had each received their training assignments, all he had needed to do nearly every day was sit here and wait for them to report in, then drink tea and prepare lunch. When the time came, they would show up punctually, leaving him with nothing to worry about.
This situation was practically even better than the best outcome Chiba had imagined.
He had originally thought that those troublesome ones would cause him problems, that the more combative ones might come looking for him after making a little progress, asking him to test them or give them sparring guidance.
But unexpectedly, not a single one did. Chiba had even been ready to step in himself, leaving him with the soft, empty feeling of throwing a heavy punch into thin air.
As for what progress these dozen or so children had made over the month, Chiba had not tested them, and they had all persisted in training until the special training ended.
